I personally like the pickup... for some reason that tugs at me emotionally. Changing the contrast and/or color levels could make it more dramatic.

Good luck!

Well, as long as we're asking for opinions...

This is a rough draft of a shot I've been considering for despair, any suggestions?

Don't know if this will help anyone but it did help me. Now I don't think this topic is going to be that tough to come up with a subject for.

I went to see the picture, but honestly I have no idea of what that is so I can't tell you if it meets the challenge! Sorry...

Woohoo! A challenge I can do well!
'Bum out' I'm pretty good at too.

Just copy&paste the URL to another browser window instead of following the link directly.

Gren: It's an interesting photo. And while the connection to the challenge theme specifically is not obvious (yet) it certainly goes into the right direction. It conveys a dark mood to me.

Where I was going with it, was the corruption of something pure. That's a topic that brings despair to mind, for me at least. What I really wanted to do was take the same shot with a bowl of milk -- more archtypal towards purity. Unfortunately my lighting is crappy, and I was running out of milk for the shot. I'm going to keep trying at it, hopefully I'll be able to convey something close to despair by the time I get done. Thanks for the comment.

Nathalie,

Thanks but I just copied and pasted the information. I hope the information helps everyone. I was kind of confused until I actually looked the word up at //dictionary.com. I hope everyone has fun with it.

I think this shot would have done quite well, but of course it was shot LAST week!
Opinions?

Terry, I think that would've been a perfect entry. Sometimes breaking the rules works, your focus and DOF is spot-on even though it is not on the eyes. B&w is good for this and you have a nice tonal range there, too. Would've gotten high marks from me.

It will be even more effective if it's visibly deflated...

That's a great shot, Terry, would have done well. Looks like it could use a bit more contrast though. :)

I have finally, at almost the 11th hour, discovered my idea for the despair challenge..

It is a set up shot... with a child holding some flowers and an American Flag, surrounded by fruit making a splash in water. But the focus is on another element.. it is me. Head down, camera tipped over, wondering what I can photograph since everything is cliche and too obvious.

What do you think? I think I will win.

Karen, Great idea, I’d give you a 10 for that. “Because your worth it” But you’ll need to remove the pickle from your eye for this shot.
