I am clearly missing an important bit here - what is the difference between the 2 Challenges pls?

I look at the art challenge as "would I print it to hang on my wall". As I review my photos, there are often good ones that don't fit that criteria. Perhaps everything you shoot is art, but maybe not. For example, one might have a great shot of a play in a football game, but most would not consider it to be art.

Take a look at the archived challenges from previous years. In my opinion “Best of” is any picture you feel is worthy. ‘Art” is more specific to a picture that may stray from realism and more suitable to certain photoshop processing (but not necessarily). I would consider Still Life, camera blur, use of textures, unusual lighting, out of the box representations, etc examples of art.

I approach it a little differently. Aesthetics have almost nothing to do with my choice for either challenge. My "best of" must touch my heart, and the "art" could appeal visually, but it has to make me think and feel something also. I don't care if anyone thinks they're pretty or not. Both my choices are personal to me.

Art isn't trying to be the best.

It’s a pity then that both are standard editing. A lot of my “arty” images fall under extended editing. Thanks for clarifying

So you can't have an artsy image that stands by itself? The only way you'd get something artsy is by combining multiple images?

These, IMO, could be considered artsy.

Art isn't trying to be the best.

That bears repeating!
