Show us something distorted and still interesting

Standard Editing

Yes, I'll be in that.

Can the distortion be done in editing? I'll go for that!

I vote "no".

Find it and shoot it. :D

You always have to make things harder! ;-)

If you don't want to see distortion-in-post, Lydia, it needs to be Minimal Editing...

I'm confused -- it's my recollection that the rule set which has become Standard editing prohibited distorting the image except to correct lens/perspective "error" ...

^^^

That's what I thought. I hope this great challenge idea doesn't go minimal :-(

Actually, no. The current Standard Editing Rules make no mention whatsoever of distortion in any form. The old Advanced Rules did, but it was one of those grey areas. Now we leave it up to the voters to decide whether or not they like the effect. In a challenge CALLED "Distortion" you can be sure there'd be distortion-in-post.

Can't that be tagged as a special rule? If people cheat and do badly, they'll get away with it, but the top photos have to be validated anyway, so it shouldn't make life difficult for SC.

Would you folks care to write a "special rule" for this challenge that you think will work, so I can either say "That's cool!" or pick it to pieces, whichever works? :-) It's not that easy, since in order to forbid a thing we have to define it...

Perhaps: "Distortion in Nature" or "Man Made Distortion" two fairly distinct versions.

Perhaps a flag to say don't use warp, skew, distort or similar tools/filters in post processing.

Special rule:. You may not change the spatial relationship between any two points on the image.

Doesn't this favour those with fish eye or wide angle lenses?

Maybe something like this -

Special rule: No distorting of the original image allowed. Photo can be processed beyond that (standard editing rules apply) but the processed image, overlaid onto the original, should be identical. As in, this is about FOUND distortion.

Sure, having one of those helps, but it's not impossible to get distortion with a cheap kit lens:

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/0-999/773/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_614661.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/0-999/773/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_614661.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

There are a bunch of objects to shoot through that will distort a scene. Even Vaseline on a filter...

Maybe it's just me but lately we seem to be dissecting these challenge ideas to death. In the meantime, the number of entries keeps diminishing. I think people read the description and just say forget it, it's not worth the bother! Lydia, you always go overboard (not literally, lol) but most people don't have the time nor the patience to figure out how to compose an image that meets the challenge.
