The trouble with including metadata in the JPG is that metadata include photographer's name etc etc, and even the location if the GPS function is enabled. When DPC automatically populates those fields upon submission, it means that the entry in question has a non-stripped JPG. And THAT means that anyone with an EXIF viewer as an add-on to their browser can read who the photographer is during voting.

For this reason, we have always ENCOURAGED people to strip their EXIF for entries.

Encouraging folks to populate the data fields manually (which is how MY data get entered) is another thing altogether and I am good with that...

all new info to me ..
and probably to lots of other ppl ..

never knew people could see who took the photo during voting if i only see the camera settings when i upload the photo ..

however in the save for web settings I think you have the option to save camera settings only .. rather than everything in the metadata .. not at computer right now so that bit could be wrong .. edit to say .. I WAS WRONG .. you can't just save the camera settings .. !!

so if I save a jpeg down to the correct size in Photoshop .. not using save for web ... as I rarely save for web .. does all the metadata come in or just my camera settings .. ??

Someone on here once told me that, that’s why I always save to Web.

I fill in all the info manually. The only time anything is auto-populated is when I upload directly from my phone. I usually have Bridge (I can't stand Lightroom) open in the background so the details are always handy, or I write the info down. Easy peasy. : D

Yes, I enter manually also but have no idea on how to upload directly from my phone (or save the original AND be able to provide it to the SC). I might need a tutorial at some point.
Otherwise, PS and reduce and save for the web

I have been just saving jpeg and resizing in Photoshop .. and now I'm finding out that all my metadata is coming in with the camera settings ..
I had no idea ..
and added to that if ppl have an exif viewer they can see all our metadata .. in voting ..including the photographer .. if you've put that in your camera ..!!..

I will definitely be entering all my camera settings manually from now on if it's going in a challenge..

also .. is saving for web the only way to strip the metadata from the photo ..
and if you upload straight from your phone then how much info is coming in ..

it's unfortunate that we can't actually see how much info is available as we can only see camera settings ..

edit to say .. putting it in the actual rules for standard and minimal editing it may get missed .. but if it comes in every time a person goes to enter a challenge it will be seen .. :)

Roz, I think this is a great idea. Perhaps even a link to simple directions on how to retrieve it can be added.
