Ouch! That is painful to the wallet.

I finally figured out this issue. It is so simple I am embarrassed to admit it.

Basically if you are taking bracketed shots say 3 then if you have taken only 1 or 2 of the set if you try to press quick settings button to change the settings, it is all greyed out. Once you have taken all 3 shots it is fine again.

Mystery solved

I can't tell from that picture, but *some* settings (like exposure compensation) are always unavailable when in Manual mode -- you are supposed to be controlling all those exposure parameters yourself ...

It is possibly the lens - I really have no idea.

Of course it happened again tonight when shooting the moon

I took.a photo with my phone

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/135000-139999/135744/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1241020.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/135000-139999/135744/120/Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_1241020.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Possibly that may offer some clue to the issue.

No expert here.. but, could it possibly be the lens? Reason why I'm even suggesting this is I have a lens that is glitchy so that on occasion it refuses to cooperate and I have to turn camera off and on again. It's also stubborn about f-stops.

Thanks Margaret - no I didnít have silent shooting on.

Of course I am unable to replicate this at home. It must be some combination of blind button pressing in the dark that is locking the settings. When you are working in the dark against the clock it is not what you need especially when you realise you are one died too far to the left of the moon to line it up with the landmark. Tonight at least I will be in the correct field assuming I have got my calculations correct

Did you have Silent Shooting on?

PS I found this as well:

"If items are greyed out try pressing the set button whilst they are selected as this may bring up the probable cause for not being able to set them."

Thanks Roz - I have never actually done a firmware update on any of my cameras

I have a feeling tho it is a setting preventing me changing settings - almost like it has locked the exposure somehow

hi Paul ..
could be ridiculous to suggest it .. as I'm pretty sure you'd know a lot more about cameras than me ..
but would a firmware update be warranted .. ?? ..

Hi there
I was taking some moon rise photos last night and as usual some technical issue raised its ugly head just to make things more stressful.

I was shooting with my Canon 5D Mark IV and a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens.

I was using manual on the camera. On several occasions when attempting to change my settings using the Quick Control Menu all the settings were greyed out / disabled. I have no idea why and to resolve it I had to change from Manual to AV and back again. I don't shoot manual very often but do recall this happening before.

I am curious if this is a glitch with my camera or something that is normal and just my misunderstanding. I checked that my camera was not locked and it was not.

Anyone seen this behaviour before? It is frustrating to happen when trying to shoot something that is stressful enough to shoot as it is.

Thanks in advance
