Hi guys!
Okay I know I've sent an e-mail to the admins about this, but I just thought maybe someone out here had a solution as well.

Ever since the site was moved I am unable to see the site from my own computer. I keep getting a "page cannot be displayed" message. Sooooo I had to kidnap (or is it "compnap"?) my huysband's desktop to come here and ask for help. He's got an AOL phone hookup and I'm on cable. His comp bites and mine's cooler... no I'm kidding... ;o)

Anyone have any idea why this is happening?
Any help or info would be appreciated.
Here's my e-mail (since I can't read the replies directly from here)
fannyb@fannyb.com

Thank you all for your help,
Fannyb

1. Do you have a Mac or PC
2. Can you see any other sites? Or is it just DPChallenge.com?
3. Are you using Netscape, Internet Explorer, or something else?

Did the dpchallenge.com domain have to be re-pointed at a new server after your outage or are you using the same IP/machines? It would take time for that change to propagate across the Internet, it is possible some systems haven't picked up the update yet.

But it's probably just something much simpler.

I emailed the URL to Fanny. If it's something simple, that may fix it.

Nope that wasn't it.

This is what Fanny emailed back to me:
Apparently it's a DNS problem. I have to wait for my ISP to update
their DNS
entries.

Ha I knew it, if I had a nickel for everytime it was an Internet propagation issue ... (that's the DNS update thing)

Well at least at my job :-)

If you don't want to wait for your ISP to catch up with the rest of the internet, add this line to your system hosts file:

139.142.181.126 www.dpchallenge.com

On Win 95/98/ME, the hosts file is windowshosts.sam, just open it in notepad and add the above line to the end of it. You'll want to remove that line sometime in the future. In XP/2000, the hosts file is probably the same as in NT 4, which I think is winntsystem32driversetchosts .

Hope that helps.

Hey Reuben...

You and Drew are my FAVORITE people of the week. I was seriously unhappy about not being able to get to the site for 4 days. I called tech support two nights in a row trying to "fix" it. They couldn't and even wrote an email to dpchallenge.com from my email so I could see if there was anything they could so.

Lo and behold - Drew sent me your advice. And it WORKED. This makes me a happy person and makes you (for a while, at least :)) my hero!

Yay for Reuben!

So THAT'S what has been going on! I could get on at home, but not at work! I'll just have to take the correct IP address to work with me Monday!

I STILL can't get on the web site from work. The above suggestions didn't work. I think I have Win 98 on my work computer. Any other ideas?

The file hosts.sam appears to be just a sample file... I can't find the actual "hosts" file. What am I missing?

You may need to go to folder options and selct to show hidden files. There are probably two hosts files there: hosts.sam (a sample) and hosts (with no extension) if the second still is not there, try copying the first into the second, and adding the entry people talk of above.
