can anyone help me get the white in this shot to be, well any other color. (probably a sky blue) |

I would just try the fill tool and see how well it does, it's gonna be very tedious however.
another thought, double layer it, with all the forground on top and have holes in it and just make a solid layer in the backround.

Here's a quick edit:
Editing Steps:
- Select color range, sample sky area, set "fuzziness" to complete selection
- Feather selection, 1px
- Adjust color with channel mixer
- Tweak with hue/sat to make it look a more natural blue
- Deselect
- Quick mask, select upper left BG area using gradient tool
- Exit QM, blur selection (0.7px)
- Deselect
- Tweak contrast & saturation on entire image
- USM, 0.5px, 50%
- Done: total time, 5 minutes

If you have a picture of just sky you could probably overlay your image with it using a selection of the sky as a mask so the sky would only show in the areas of your selection. IMO this would look the most natural (if that's what you're going for).

I think you should consider a career in PS consulting, where us non-PS folk could hire you to edit our shots for us.
I seriously think this could be an upcoming market for all of you who are good at PS
(yes cp natural is always good IMO)
I am just really not skilled at PS I don't have a clue how to do most of those kind of things I need to take a class in the new year.) |

Neither am I. I've just started working with templates and masks and it's amazing the results. I still have to look at the book I have (How to Wow) for all the steps and even then it doesn't always turn out the way I want.

| I have tried just to read the PS tutorials, and I still get lost, I think i need someone over my shoulder, i swim and then sink in the 'manual' type books info. |

I've found that for quick edits, I like hte Quick Mask mode (hit "q"). You can then usee the paintbrush, gradient tool, and eraser to make your mask. Or create a selection, then hit "q" and you can modify the selection in the Quick Mask mode. Very useful, and fast. For more critical work, multiple layers is a better solution, since you can redo without starting over. each method has its place.
I'd certainly not consider myself a PS expert, but since I've been hammering away at it for a couple years, I finally seem to be getting the hang of it.
I still find that I learn something new quite often, and often the inspriation and/or direction comes from DPC.
