Not an outtake, but I thought some people might like some explanation of my entry:

Your entry is kind of a modern Oz glimpsed in the distance, interesting and ironic. Among others, I think it gathers in those viewers attracted to visual clarity and realism. The unused image is more appealing because it's mysterious, evocative, challenging, engaging and of a more quirky composition. It can be fruitfully lingered over and supports many interpretations and emotions. This is, of course, a subjective appraisal that doesn't negate the worthiness of your entry. But I would have rated it higher. Among others, I think it gathers in those viewers attracted to images that are undefined and, if I may, intellectually and emotionally stimulating. That's a dangerous assertion, and just refers to preference and not intelligence. I believe the former types of image have more pull for the voters at large. I like both types of images, simplistic as it is to make the issue binary, but do get greater satisfaction from the latter type. I wouldn't be happy to not have both in the mix.

My candidates were two shots taken while wandering the staging area for the Mexican Independence Day parade. My entry was of some colorful dancers practicing:

May outtake was some cadets getting their uniforms in military shape:

There were aspects of each I liked.

Little cracks in the wall: I did not vote - or "glimpse" for that matter - to this challenge and now I have a great day looking at the entries.

@ jomari both images are true glimpses and interesting ideas but they lack the elusive element that takes a moment into a meaningful freezing state. The "slightly wired" attracts me more. We are left with questions unanswered and therefore we keep coming back to it. It it visually disjointed, perhaps too much white, perhaps if one element would have been very sharp...

@ markwiley The outtake is truly memorable but I find no fault in the entry one. I am a fan of these street festivals and am amazed of the composition and clarity of both. I would think that for getting a high marks the entry was the right choice. I would have saved it for a photo collection (essay) and posted the outtake but that's only my choice. Excellent work

Thanks much for the feedback. Compiling a photo essay is an interesting idea. I have generally been lazy and not been a good contributor to the photo essay thread. However, the parade was a lot of fun to shoot, and I think I may have enough interesting images I could assemble one.
