I dont get this, my Nightshot photo is my 2nd highest scoring photo.
It place 23th place and that's not bad.
The only thing I don't understand is the 4 comments I got (well 2 real comments) I's not a bad shot, not a wow shot, but in a challenge with 10 comments average per photo I wonder why this one got so little.

Anybody have an explanation?

It's a middle of the road shot.. and those usually generate less comments. That's about all I can suggest. I, myself, only commented on my lowest voted photos (and a couple of the highest).

Yeah, that would be it going by the number of comments, there's only 1 difference.

Average score (middle of the road): 5.457
This one: 6.390 so I still dont understand.

Yes, I have to agree with Artyst there.

The shots that typically get the most comments are in the top or bottom 10, as they are amazingly good or shockingly bad ;)

Yah, sorry, I didn't really get my meaning across. what I meant was, is that you had a *lot* of the same vote.. (6s mostly in this case, and 5s.). Instead of a good deal of spread. For some reason, shots like that tend to get fewer comments. (don't ask me why). Also, anything really below a 6.7 to a 5.3 can be considered *middle of the road* depending on the challenge. This one was rather high scoring.. a 6.3 making 27th place shows that. (I hit 28th place with a 5.7 in communication).
Finally.. there is one other factor: the, "that's the way it is" syndrome ;) Meaning.. you got 4 comments, and probably should have gotten more.. but baby, that's the way it is! :)

DPC is such a difficult place to understand sometimes :)

I have to agree with Natator on this one. I got about 30 odd comments done in this challenge, but sadly there were a lot of other great shots in the middle I didnt have the time to comment on!

Have left you a comment now though (see your image)!

Keep up the great work!

What I usually do (and saw others tend to do as well) is give comments to highest rated (say 10s, 9, and some 8s) and the lowest (1a and 2s).
First group to show my appreciation to the work, second group as I feel I owe that to people I grade low (I'd love to get comments with each 1 or 2 I get - but even that doesn't happen).

Example - I gave you a 6, and decided to spend my time on commenting with pics really need improving.

Unless your pic is controversial, where some people love it and some hate it and you get comments from both of those, you will usually end up with only a few comments and you'll just have to live with that.

My suggestion (which I go with) is to make sure to have more comments given than received. If others would use this rule too we would all have more comments in general. My that's just me

No, it's not just you! I wish more people would use that rule. I have 27 comments recieved, and 653 comments given. Yeah, somebody owes me some comments. :)

What i noticed is that its hard to coment on lots of same type pictures.
But i dont say that about yours :).
And other case is just pictures is 'perfect' - nothing to add halpfull or picture is 'nothing' - it doesnt give you any feeling. But again this is not your case :).
You did it good...so comments are matter of luck and mood...

I've "discussed" this situation before and was guilty of commenting on the best and worst photos.

After a suggestion by GeneralE I will now concentrate on commenting on those pictures in the middle of the scoring. These are the photographers to whom your comments will make the most difference and the comments will be most appreciated.

There will always be somebody who comments on the lowest scoring photo's and usually more practice and looking at the other photo's on this site will improve them anyway.

The top shots will always get enough comments and all the "Great shot", "wow", "deserves a ribbon" type comments without any critique are a waste of time anyway.

So concentrate on the middle of the road shots where improvement because of your comments will be assured.
