I submitted this shot two days before the deadline, then looked at it so much that I got sick of it... I ended up yanking it about an hour before midnight, because I just didn't want to settle for another mediocre 5-ish. While the scene is interesting if you're already familiar with the city, I just couldn't see it appreciated by the majority.

I'd be interested in your opinions - good, bad, and/or ugly.

I think it's great... it would have garnered a 7 or 8 from me. Then again, I am in a black and white mood as of late, so this really appeals to me on that level too! :o)

its a quality shot. maybe not enough to break the 6s, but it would have probably been up there is the high 5s...
i like the shot

Have to agree with Laurie, I would have voted this high. Next time, submit your entry at the last minute :).
I like the use of BW, though I'm curious if it would look better in color?
Something I found interesting is that the horizon is actually level, but gives theimpression of not being so because of the composition.

I also would have scored it high.

It has a great old time feel, not just because of the B @ W, but it just looks like an older town.

Super photo.

I like it as well. I would have given it at least a 5, but probably a 6, and maybe a 7. I like the foreground tones, with the buildings lit in the front.

Overall, I would guess with this hard crowd you would not have won, but would be high 5's or low 6's.

But since you didn't enter it, and we are just making you feel bad, forget what I just said, and think that you'd be lucky to get a 5 with this ;)

Thanks, Arpita, Laurie, and others... I appreciate the kind feedback. I did play with this in color, and uploaded an uncropped version of it to my portfolio. The impression you describe, Arpita, may be due to the fact that I used a perspective correction tool in Photoshop to correct the convergence of lines that occurred with my 17mm lens pointed downward at the scene...

Thanks, everyone.

It is a nice shot but a lot of nice pictures that would make great wall art, or magazine covers do lousy in competition. If you like it, shot it and show it off.

It looks surreal. I would have given it a 7

I would probably give it a 6. I think this would have ended somewhere near 6.217 and 79% ;-P

Very nice, easy 6.5 finish.

I think i would have preferred the color version. afterall night is already black...you cant show the drama of a night shot without the contrasting color (i think)

It's better then my submission and i'm on 6.4 now....

I have the same thing with my free study submission.
Taken 2nd this month and am sick of looking at it.
I realy don't want to submit it, but 2 good photographer saw it and said it was a wow or a very good shot... so I leave it in.

Think it will score 4.5 :(
