Is selecting a color range (Selection>Color Range in Photoshop) considered spot editing if I don't manually modify the selection?

bil99 I asked the same question about selective color. Someone responded that if it isn't specified in the rules condsider it legal. I consider Color range an overall move that only affects a certain part of the spectrum, just like making a red channel curve move. All the same IMO... But I am not the one that makes the rules... LOL!!!

as far as I know it is legal. from what I understand as long as it effects the whole image..its legal I have done the color range thing.
to spike up dull colors and it did not seem to cause any trouble,
also what you are talking about is no different than turning a color picture black and white...so I would say yes it is legal..

Do not use any type of selection tool. Color modifications are acceptable, so long as they are applied to the whole image.

Drew, then how did people in the past challenges make B+W images with the subject still colored in?

They desaturated all the colours except one in photoshop. You can see how here: //www.dpchallenge.com/how.php?HOW_ID=16
