When you people talk about using photoshop, is it Adobe? Adobe Photoshop Elements? Because I want to get one and I was wondering if it's the best...

Adobe Elements has many of the things in Photoshop7 or CS but not the expense.

Biggest weakness in Elements is it's lack of masks. You can not edit different parts of a shot differently easily... All right for basic editing rules but sucks for advanced...

You can find Elements for free with some hardware.

PS or photoshop - means Adobe Photoshop - can mean the others but we usally refer it to Adobe Photoshop

I got photoshop myself - but what is the difference between Adobe Photoshop Element and Adobe Photoshop 7?

Oh Elements is I think a very stripped version of Photoshop, atleat it doesn't have Curves and masks as TooCool pointed out

My older computer can easily handle the task from Elements, except photo merge. Photoshop seems to put a strain on my computer. Make sure you have plenty of RAM when using PS7/CS.

I'll say that the most important missing feature (in Elements) is Curves. Levels is a usable but less flexible alternative.

But if you are just starting out, it may well be better to spend less than $100 on Elements first and learn the basics, then upgrade to the expensive version when you have a better idea how to use the advanced features. Elements is quite adequate for almost anything you'd have to do at DPC.

There are ways to get around the curves issue.

Having recently installed a new hard drive and all things being equal (amd athalon machine runing at 450 mhz with approx 1/4 gig of memory) free hard drive space is even more important than memory!!!
