what steps did you do to get "lighting effect"

I did an auto contrast, auto levels, then went to Render>>Lighting Effects and chose the soft omni light, picked a peachy-tan color for the light, centered it on the tip of your nose, tweaked the spread of the light, fiddled with the lighting levels (more metallic, more negative ambiance) until it looked OK to me, then applied USM. :o)

That's a pretty neat trick Laurie. Gives the shot a really nice look. Thanks for sharing your steps.

I hate to bug you again but could you give me the numbers on the excat color you used, I have been trying to do this but I keep changeing the skin town to much and it doesn't look nearly as good.

I'll throw these two in

The second is the first with auto contrast applied

here's my attempt. converted the pic to a really contrasty b&w then converted back to RGB. used Variations to tone the pic until i liked the color. cloned out some distracting reflections in the glasses and dodged the eyes a bit. made a duplicate layer and added a heavy gausian blur then set the opacity of the blur level to around 25%. flattened the layers then used USM.

You might be able to mouse over the area or click on an area and the code for the colour will show for you.

Or, if you're using PS CS and you have the log turned on then you can look at the log.

Other than that I don't know.

I did an auto levels...
If you look closely you can see the improvement in the contrast.

Much though I'd have loved to Goo or Liquify this guy into the comic books, I just went for some good old cross-processing (more subtle than previous posts). He looks like a musician or designer, so this seemed appropriate to me.
