Hi,
I just got my Epson R800 3 days ago and while I was astounded with the quality of the color rendition, I quickly noticed that there are faint horizontal lines across the print (in the direction the print head travels). It is more evident in B&W photos. I tried aligning the heads, cleaned the nozzles 3 times, moved the printer on the floor to ensure no excessive vibrations and choosing best photo for quality with minimal changes in print quality. You can see these lines in good light with the naked eye. Sometimes these lines are colored, sometimes white. Is this to be expected from this printer or do I have a major problem? I am using Epson Premuim Glossy 6x4 as my test paper. Thanks for any help. I waited two months for this printer and am really disappointed now.

Hi
I have not had anything like that with my prints from the R800, not sure what could be causing it.

Sorry I can't help.

Anyone reckon I should just send it back?

I would try calling Epson service centre first or email via their local web page in the support section.

Could be something small.

Anyone else saw this kind of problems with their R800. I am trying to delay taking the printer in until I am sure I cannot fix it myself since they will have to send it abroad for fixing, meaning a month or two to get it back. I waited this long to get it in the first place !!

It might be your trying to print text instead of photo. You should have an option in your print menu to select Draft, Text, Text w/ photo, Photo and Optimal photo. I assume that you are using Epson inks and papers. The last time I ran into this was due to the print head needing refresh.

The banding you describe can be attributed to several items (at least on a 2200)
Print heads needing cleaning
Higher quality print selection required
Wrong media type for your paper
Wrong side of paper being printed on
Paper adjust selected for roll instead of sheet
Ink cartridges need replacing
Print head alignment required

I have had this problem with my Epson R800 -- only use it for documents. I've never had this problem with my Epson R300, which is the one I use for printing photos.

I bought this printer specifically for photos. I was also expecting the R800 to be better for photos than the r300 hence the double price tag difference. I have selected the option to print photos, in fact even selecting the best quality I get banding. As for the cartridges, they are brand new that came with the printer.

I took it back, let's see what happens

What paper were you printing on?

I've never had this, and even just went and double checked in case I had missed it, but can't spot it at all with mine. The prints from mine are faultless.

Are you using actual Premium Glossy for instance? I was using the standard glossy photo paper and then found out the R800 is better suited to the premium one.

If you are using the original cartridges, and cleaning them doesn;t help, I can only think it might be the ink/paper combination.

I am using Epson Premium Glossy 6x4. Also I just got it last Thursday and the ink cartridges are brand new. All this is so depressing since I really wanted a good printer for ages, after being totally disappointed with off-the-street printing especially since they insist on cropping photos and messing about with the color of prints.

I know this is very disappointing for you but don't let it get to you. The R800 is without doubt the best photo printer that I have seen and I have seen a few. I won the Best medium print at our local camera club a week ago and these guys are all film and chemical printed photos. So it can't be to bad.

I have tried the 100mm Roll, various A4 Photo quality papers as I cannot get the Epson Premium Photo paper in my district and a number of brands for the 150mm X 100mm and I have not had anything like you describe. I wonder if it could be something as simple as a hair dragging along the face of the photo as it is fed through before the paint gets a chance to dry.

I hope you get a better result when it is returned Oh and I only use it for photos as I kept my old Canon BJC 6000 as my Text and web printer.

When I read this I knew I must have made a mistake. It's the R820 I use for docs and have the trouble with on photos. It came "free" with my laptop so I knew it wasn't more $$ than the R300 I bought for photos. Sorry.
