There's a trend lately... on FaceBook (which I suspect prompted this amazing challenge topic)... to use an app there to turn your photo into an animal.

Is that legal here?

Or do we need to do the work ourselves?

I LOVE the challenge topic! It's so fun!

Uhm I would say a big fat NO to using an app...not after putting 30+ hrs into my entry...

I am certain this would fall into the You May NOT add graphics or clip art.

I don't know, Mike... Bear said that using an app to add the "tear off" edges to stamps was okay in the Stamp Challenge.

So, I wonder.

Anyone on SC want to chime in?

First of all, those "stamp-edge" shortcuts are Photoshop ACTIONS, just a recorded sequence of steps in photoshop. They aren't "apps".

Secondly, the Facebook App won't give you a valid EXIF, so it's a moot point.

Not to mention that you're then using an app's source photo of the animal faces, instead of going out and shooting an animal's face yourself.

As for tricky stuff like the deckle edges for the stamp? This time I did deckle edges, and all *gasp* without using any PS actions.

How?

SImple. I took a pic of a stamp, then erased QE2 off of it. Eh wala, perfect deckle edges, and a plain white bg. BAM!

I thought of that- but none of our stamps had those edges! With the sticky backs, they all were straight edges

True, I've seen a few like that. But as this challenge was also around Xmas time and I got some cards, there were deckle edges aplenty. Cancellation marks too, but I didn't bother with them cause the new Cdn cancel mark is essentially several ellipsis at a 45 degree angle. Boring.

I made mine by myself without a photo.

I googled how to do it. It's basically a line of circles evenly spaced by setting the spacing and drawing a straight line.

Thanks for the clarification, Bear.

Hmmm ... seem to be missing a post in here that was an interesting read last night. :-P

FWIW stamps have "perforated" edges. A "deckle edge" is completely different, where the edge of the paper has been roughened (as with sandpaper), and it is fuzzy but without any distinct shapes; it's usually found on one edge of a card or the bottom of fancy letterhead.

First I googled stamp actions but found non I liked so decided to try it on my own. I recieved a Christmas card from Barbara from Germany and fashioned mine from one of the stamps on her envelope. I made the dempled edges with circles by using the grid, placed the circles evenly around the photo and actually the stamp had Holiday Cheers on it just like the one I entered in the challenge.

I didn't get this one in. I was running behind. I really wish I could have entered but the Holidays were very busy.

That is how you will turn your new year into a celebration which ................. ???????????????

Enquiring minds really need to know the rest of this!

Edited much later:

Yay, I'm ok again. I managed to find the rest of it on Google Germany.

"Lebe! Liebe! Lache! Auf diese Weise mache Dein neues Jahr zu einem Fest, das Dich Dein Leben feiern lässt."
