Hi, been a longtime since I posted here but always have loved this forum/community of folks.

I have had a Cannon G-9 for probably the last 5-10 years and my wife primarily uses it for family photos, etc. Well, it still works but the batteries are aged and don't hold a charge all that long, etc.

So last minute I am thinking of a new camera for my wife. We have an Italy vacation (son's wedding) this coming August so a new camera may be a nice gift.

However, I cannot shell out tons of money and it has to be simple point and shoot for her. She's just not interested in any additional features, etc.

That said, I love cannon and was wondering if someone could help suggest a newer camera based upon our needs.

Thanks !

Merry Christmas

Got a ballpark for your budget on this? There's a HUGE range of prices out there for good point-n-shoot cameras.

Bear is right. In any case Panasonic LX100 is a super camera for about 500$. Its quality/price is IMHO super. Where does your son live in Italy?

I know none of you will like this but I would like to stay at or below $350

I should have said what my budget was sorry about that.

Actually he is marrying an Italian girl. They just got married here in the states on their marriage visa and will be married in Italy (formal wedding) in August. In the Barco region.

I should mention that based upon budget I would consider other camera brands .

I have one of these and have been using it for quite a while. It's a fantastic camera with a long zoom and the image quality is perfect for the intended use.

I've been using the (now distant) ancestor of this camera for about 10 years -- I got it because of its extreme versatility.

A couple of features I didn't see listed (but are probably still included) are the tilt-swivel LCD which makes taking photos at odd angles easier, built-in intervalometer (for time-lapse), and a SuperMacro mode which gets you really close.

My only "complaint" has been poor low-light performance, and I'm sure this newer model is way better.

olympus Pen epl-7 small. micro 4/3 interchangle lenses if you ever want to switch. i tried all the smaller format non dslr and the Pen was the only one that satisfied me with image quality AND portability.

I've got the previous generation - SX700. No tilt-swivel screen and no intervalometer (that I'm aware of). The low light performance still isn't great and the ability to select focus points is really limited. Its best feature is the zoom - which is why I find it easier to carry in my bag instead of spare lenses.
