I just created this new business card for my photography business. Of course I shrank it to be viewable, the real image is larger, so it looks better.

What do you think?

I think its way too busy for a buisness card
Try taking out the sky background and put a white background and the perfect pose photography is very hard to read

just wanna add that Simple is the keyword for buisness cards

Hmm... don't know what to say. I think it looks like something you made in Microsoft Word. I think it is to crowded and I don't like the font. Kinda hard to read. It looks unprofessional. I'm sorry but I wouldn't hire you.

I agree with heida and arnit - too busy. I would remove the black and white square with the white lettering on the right, change the sky background to something else to make the business name stand out and move your info down to the lower right corner. just my thoughts.

one nice wedding black and white with one colorful cute portrait would be a best bet. with your name and number at botton line with white background and black lettering

I understand what you are saying, but trust me it looks way better the right size. After some examples i saw today, with the card it is printed on it will look good.

the fact you had to mention the original is larger, and looked better should answer your question.

You poor Dear - I hope we haven't hurt your feelings with our comments as you were obviously proud of your effort.

I'm afraid everyone is right, though. It's too busy and needs to be simplified. Think professional elegance and try again. Looking at your port, you have some nice photos in there so I know that if you train that "eye" on your cards, you'll create a successful layout. Good luck :-)

A businesscard is supposed to be small. How large is it? Even though you would print it on a bus I don't think it will look any better. Sorry :)

O well, I still like it. Geuss I am invisioning somthing different than you guys.

On another note... look into to see what it would take to have your Email address match your web space. It shouldnt be much since you already have the site... that one little bit adds so much in credibility.

It takes alot more than that to hurt my feelings. I am always up for people opinoins. The business cards I saw today also looked busy. But with the way they were printed it made them look really good. I have ordered a few to see how the look, so if I am not impressed I will only be out a couple of dollars. But I think I will like them.

What do I think? Well, I would keep it simple, by getting rid of the fancy font, the background (make it one color), and put only one pic, or just a logo.

In addition to everything said I would think twice about including the polaroid as a holder for the text. People think polaroid they generally think cheap and poor quality.

Is this going to be businees card size? It's way too busy for that.

As a 5x7 mailer or similar size, I guess it would be OK.

How about this.

10/14/2004 08:36:01 PM · #17

Better.
10/14/2004 08:51:19 PM · #18
This is better, simpler is better, but maybe you should have a photo that conveys the name "The Perfect Pose" on the card, that would be good, but not as necessary as having all the necessary info on it. I see that you have taken out the list of what you do. I think that you should have that on the card.
The text at the bottom is too close to the edge also. The card isn't very much 'photography-like', it's more 'religion-like' now. But you are getting somewhere.

I hope you don't mind, but I would like to show you a card that I did quickly to show you in what way I would like to see it look like, but ofcourse it could be done in many different ways, with different fonts, different photo, different background etc. I took one photo from your portfolio to use for it (hope you don't mind).

Travis, I would look at a billion business cards if I were you, find 10 that really impress you and then figure out why.

Some quick things I notice right away on your last sample:

The right side of the web site and the e-mail address don't seem to line up.
The "=" looks unprofessional.
Your brand is "the perfect pose" yet your background is a sky photo. It's unclear what brand you are selling.
The font of "The perfect pose photography" is very elegant and gothic looking, yet the other type is in a very plain and simple font. Again, a conflict in branding.

I'm not in marketing myself, but I do work closely with the marketing department where I work and I know that anybody can greatly benefit from the top-of-mind knowledge that these guys have when it comes to branding via business cards and/or other forms of marketing.

Take your time, your business card says a lot more about you/your business than you may want it to.

I like amasons version! My first impression of the type face on the original, is tattoo shop??? I hate to criticize, because everyone should have a vision of their own, but classy and clean will impress. I need one too amason...Barefoot Photography. I like the one I use, but I like other peoples impressions?

My current card.

Your card is ok, but also it's a bit to busy, it should be simpler with simpler fonts imo. The text is also a too close to the borders for my taste. The phone number shouldn't be at the top as it is like a headline. But don't take me wrong, your card isn't all bad.

I've been working in making businesscards among other things for almost 12 years in my work and I've been making countless businesscards for those years. I should have some insight for it now, but imo a person who has worked 20 years in some business isn't always better in it than a person that has only worked 1 year in that same business. In making businesscards people's tastes are different and although you like this what I did, I'm sure there are some people that don't like it.

:-)

Since we're all at it... my card. Enjoy

Okay, so I'm not a professional, but I work with professional designers and I'd have to say the business card that Amason posted is excellent. The business card you posted wouldn't be taken seriously by a lot of places. Sorry! The largest (and hardest) part of design is keeping up with what's modern.

Plus, that original font is terrible. 2004 is about clean and simple design. It's effective, not just trendy.

the VAST majority is telling you other than what's in your head...isn't that what being objective is about?
Maybe they're on to something?????........
And I should add that this is DPC where being 'nice' is key so people are most likely holding back ..
