A little over a year ago I'd had some discussions with a DPCer who managed a hotel in the Fjords of Norway. Now I've forgotten his user-name and can't seem to relocate it. Anyone know to whom I'm ref erring? Thanks!

Perhaps it's Birgir (21.gif mrbig65).

Perhaps it was 31.gif TrollMan Robert.

Unfortunately, it's neither of those. Our Unknown Norwegian was running a small hotel on a Fjord on the west coast north of Bergen :-(

Were these discussions in your email or private messages here? Can you go back and find old messages?

That's the thing of it; I'd THOUGHT they were PMs but I haven't been able to locate them. I have many thousands of them and I don't remember a key to search with. All I know is we'll be GOING to Bergen next fall to catch a boat back to America via Iceland, Greenland, etc, and we hope we can spend some time before in his hotel :-(

You probably already did this, but . . .

maybe do a search on Norway and see what comes up. Scan the thumbs for user names that look familiar. Maybe that will jog your memory.

Did all that. Memory's a sieve. It can barely stroll, let alone jog.

Have you done an image search for "Bergen"?

My mind's like a steel sieve.

That sounds like a really nice trip! We have Norway and Iceland both on our bucket lists. Is it a cruise back? Link to any organized trip info?

ETA: I assume you did a search here:

Thanks. Definitely looks like a great trip. For my wife to be interested, we'd need to be sure some of those excursions involve some good hikes! Love to hear about it and see your pics when you get back!

Damn, that member sounds familiar. I think I remember discussing Bergen with someone who lived around there but I can't remember who it was.

The trip sounds fantastic. I think you'll like Viking, their service is top notch and the food is better than most other cruise lines I've been on.

We traveled on Viking Star's maiden voyage, from Istanbul to Barcelona, a year and a half ago, and loved it. No climbing walls, no water slides, no casino, no rococo decor, just clean modern Scandinavian design and thoughtful public spaces.

Aww, you'll be coming to Newfoundland but not the east coast (St. John's) where I live! Too bad, we could have met up if you were.

... and an emphasis on the places being visited, along with a schedule that maximizes the opportunity for time ashore during the day.

It was a great experience for my first cruise :-), except for Robert being laid low with bronchitis for 3 days.

I know for certain that Birgir (mrbig65) is a chief cook in a hotel somewhere in the fjords of southwest Norway. Of course I don't know whether it's he you're referring to, but he will likely be able to help you. By the way, this sounds like one faboulus journey you're about to make there.

I sent him a PM :-) Being an ex-chef myself, he just got onto my "want to meet" list. As would be any Norwegian or other DPCer who can be where we are in early September, comes to that.

Thanks to the sterling detective work of 21_F.gif PennyClick, we've recovered the correspondence. The DPCer in question is 21_N.gif Josaa, and I've sent him a message :-)
