Would really appreciate some input here.

I have a photos that I have exported to Elements 11.
Image looks the same colour when exported.
Then I put a stroke around the image and copy it.
Past it to another image also in Elements 11 and now this photos has a green tint.
I can't work out why this is happening.

Any idea??

The file I was pasting the image to was an old PSD file.
I remade this file (gradient filter and some writing etc) hoping that it would now keep the image the same

It worked.

Don't know why the old PSD file is doing this but looks like I can move forward now.

Cheers

its a color space issue. Lightroom is likely changing the color space to from sRGB to Adobe RGB or Prophoto RGB when you export it to elements.

The color space of the old PSD file is different from the color space you are working in, and the settings to deal with the differences are incorrect. Without some more detailed knowledge of how your system is set up, it's not possible to say exactly what you'd need to change to eliminate this. Since you have solved the issue separately, and this seems to be the only issue you were having, I don't suggest changing anything, since that might create other issues.
It's amazing how complicated a topic color management is. Truly understanding it involves quite a bit of detailed study.

which is why i'm surprised that lightroom by default changes the color space when its makes psd files instead of say, using the original color space of the photograph.

Good point! Lightroom (and shooting RAW in general) has evolved to the point where it is not just for tech geeks. The default behavior of Lr is intended to keep the maximum information when transferring the file, but this assumes the user has a relatively good understanding of how to deal with different color spaces.

Why don't one of you suggest ("authoritatively") that they make "Change to ___ color-space on import" an option in the Preferences (with an option to "leave unchanged" of course)?

I do believe that it is already possible to set Ps to do what is required. I'd have to test whether the preference is honored when Lr transfers a file to Ps as the external editor.

I thought the problem was with Lightroom, not Photoshop ...

Thanks guys
Seeing I got a fix (well a redo fixed it) I hadn't come back to see what was being said.

Color management is a headache to say the least but when it changes from one program to the other (both Adobe) it becomes so stressful.

Next I have to print at the local print machine (lots to print) but first I take a couple in to get printed to see that colour are a reasonable match.
Fingers crossed.

It only becomes a problem when Lightroom exports in a high-gamut profile, and Photoshop is not set to properly handle mismatch. Both conditions must be met. In this case it was made worse by pasting into a document with a different color space. FWIW, I think it is also possible to set Lr to export in, for instance, SRGB, but I haven't tried it. I never really do the "external editor" thang, I'm old school and export an intermediate file. Once I'm done in Lr, I'm not going back into Lr.
