Sigma - Zoom Telephoto 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO Zoom Macro Super II Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS

I am thinking about buying this lens. I need a telephoto lens like this, the macro is just a plus for me.

I was just wondering if any of you had any experience with this lense.

Thanks in advance.

I have that lens with the Nikon mount for my D70. I'm very happy with it.

I took this photo with it at 300mm

It is a good lense, I am quite happy with mine.

Sigma manufactures this lense for Ritz Camera under the brand name Quantaray, which is the version I have.

Below are a few examples of images I have taken with it, macro, no-macro and with a Polarizer filter on it...

It´s great for the price you pay for it. I used to own one but sold it after getting the 70-200 2.8 IS but if I still needed a lighter zoom in this range for walking around I would have kept it.

However I am a quality freak and love big apertures and smooth bokeh so this lens just wasn´t good enough for me. Wide open it just isn´t good, soft is the key word here. At around F8-F11 it´s pretty good though. Also it focuses pretty slow, about the same as the 300D kit lens.

okey thank you guys this helped alot. I think i'll buy one and wait until I advance more in photography and get more cash to buy a better one.

Thanks again, those shots you guys posted are great.

I have the same lens for my Pentax Superprogram 35mm SLR. I've been extremely happy with the results. :)

I shot my wildlife pic with my Sigma 70-300mm. It needs plenty of light to make a good, sharp picture, but I love it in macro mode, to give that soft background look.

The butterfly below was shot with this lens, also.

I got it very recently and I am very happy with it, it is quite sharp and the colors are pretty good.
