I am wondering how much of my horrific score was attributed to the zoo thing and how much to the editing?

I received some comments about the background being altered. The background was plain blue sky. I changed to sepia and used high pass filter.

Here is the same shot without high pass:

I will post the original later. I have a new computer, and have not yet moved my picture files.

Thanks in advance for any helpful comments.

It's not an obvious zoo shot (well, not completely obvious), but the heavy-handed dodging made it look way too unnatural. I would've rated the original higher. My 2 cents... :)

Darlene, I like the one without the high pass filter much better. It looks much more natural. Looking forward to seeing the orignal.

I think it is mostly the editing, it has an unnatural look with the halo around the giraffe and the lack of colour.

The other version would have done a lot better.

editing, definitely. i really like the non-high-pass one much better.

The high pass filter makes it look like a too large of a dodge brush was used. Pretty sure that the halo affected your score.

Note: Didn't vote in the wildlife challenge, but it would have affected my scoring of the shot.

I agree with doctornick. It jas nothing to do with the "zoo" look. In fact, sepia makes it look like and old safari shot. It's the halo around the neck that is the problem I believe. And no context, but this one is not important so much I think. The original is better.

You tried hard, but as we say in Poland: Better is an enemy of good. Good luck next time.

Thanks so much. I am like a 13 year old driving a Jag using Photoshop for the first time. No experience at all! This will really help me in the future.

So the Sepia was working for me? I thought it gave it that Safari feel as well. Glad I got a little right. Thanks!
