6.22 to 5.16

Sometimes I think early voters just like messing with me.

Dislike!

But certainly there is a ribbon for earning the lowest score possible?

Stats: You have rated 61 of 61 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 14 images (23%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 5.3934.

my score is about a half point lower than that.

My Expert Opinion:

I am amused at how obsessed some of you are about the votes you receive on your entries right out of the gate, when most of you claim votes don't matter. It seems as if you are able to know what vote you got at any given time "do you sit around with a calculator or what"? Why would anyone care how many images you commented on unless you comment on all of them and why would anyone care what the average score you gave?

This isn't a rant it is just an observation and opinion I have since I was first chastised by some of you about bringing up voting and shoe-boxing and it is hilarious.

2 points:

1) this IS a challenge/competition site, so watching your entry's score is natural. some do it more, so do it less. some care, some don't

2) i find it informative to see the "trends" as people report their scores here, as it lets me know if my ups and downs are specific to my entry, or are the result of overall high or low voting going on. basically, it makes me "feel" better if everyone is getting low votes at the same time i am... misery loves company, i guess ;-)

It's an option for those who (as noted) find comfort in the group activity, and those who have fun doing it. If you'll also note, there are usually just a fraction of people posting their scores than there are entries in any given challenge. It's not for everyone, but it's there for anyone.

My score has gone up by .5 so I guess the curmudgeons have all finished voting. I may not get the brown ribbon after all.

[eta] I have enjoyed voting on this too. Lots of nice shots.

Actually, some people have an app that takes care of that for them :-)

Darn it, made it to 6.04 today, now back down to 5.97 in a vote...looking like tiny violin time.

Is it like an iPhone App? By the way what is the brown ribbon is it last place?

Yup, the Brown Ribbon is an unofficial designation of last place. Sort of like a unicorn, doesn't actually exist except anecdotally.

A long time ago NiallOTuama developed a voting monitor for the PC. It keeps track of new votes and calculate the most likely value for that vote. In my opinion it is not an accurate method, but what I like about it is that it generates messages when there are new votes and it gives your new average in colour (i.e. green when your new average is higher, red when it's lower). Don't know where you can find that monitor on this site.
You can of course also make a simple spreadsheet that does the same. I did that myself and used it mostly on the first day of voting, but nowadays there is not much voting around anymore.

Plug into spreadsheet

X votes x score = total 1
Y votes x score = total 2

total 1 - total 2 = interim accumulated new score, "Z"

Z / (Y-X) = average of new vote (or votes).
