As for Bowie's lyrics, they were wonderful, beautiful, and superb, he was a starman in every sense.

Not having ever listened to his music and... only reading his lyrics...

uhh...

uhhh...

Have you read his lyrics without hearing them sung in your head?

Every once in a while, I have the sense
to stay out of a challenge that I know nothing about. This is one of those times.
Back to abstract landscapes.

No. I challenge you to look for a couple of hours (as I did when I knew nothing about David Bowie) and find a line or two that will further challenge you to portray what you find, Alice!

Google.

Google again.

Enter.

I felt the same... for this AND abstract landscapes.

I've entered both.

I challenge you, sweet one, to enter just one.

Lydia and sfalice - my office - NOW.

*closing door and locking it*

Siddown, both of you, and listen. If you don't know anything about a musician you don't just go and read the lyrics!

That's like telling someone to get a sense of Beethoven's or Mozart's greatness by telling them to go read the sheet music. Rotsa ruck.

You will never get a sense of the performer or what made them so great unless you HEAR what made them so great. I don't care much for country, but I sure as hell know who Johnny Cash is, and I've listened to his music, including some of the amazing stuff he did in his later years with current rock/grunge bands backing him. So I am still no huge fan of Cash, but at least I get him.

Yo must LISTEN. And as Bowie was a tremendously visual performer, it only helps for you to watch some of the videos. It would look a little silly if you had your model dressed up as, say, the Ziggy Stardust or Aladdin Sane character for Modern Love when his character then was an extension of the Thin White Duke.

He turned out 25 albums and was a groundbreaker in so many ways out the gate that to just limit yourself to reading lyrics is a crying shame.

So. *rising from desk and unlocking door*. Go forth and do your homework. It won't hurt you to watch some videos of a truly amazing performer who was far more than just a musician.

LOL - I just entered one, dear Lydia, and got handed my first Brown.
by the way, has anybody got a spare supply of Brown ribbons? I need one.

PS - Snaffles, I'm sure not going to listen to a popular star that I never listened to before
just for a Challenge! Now. if someone were to dust off my suggestion for Sibelius, well.....

This is a good challenge for Bowie fans. They might hand out some harsh scores to the rest of us. I already have a LOT of brown ribbons!

Really? Not even one song? Alice...:-(

If Sibelius ever gets nominated for a challenge, you can be quite sure that I'll wiki them and youtube them and watch some videos or both their recent and older work. Just to get a sense as to what they're all about.

Anyway I'm dropping the reins now. Still have a lot of work to do.

I meant... one of the two I was discussing... Bowie and Abstract Landscape.

Since those aren't yet in voting, I assume I wasn't clear. :D

Here's your brownie: I'm sure Alex won't mind.

I'm kinda jealous. I've never gotten one... only close. *sigh*
