Out of some photos I took today, this one turned out much better than I imagined. I took about 6 photos of this scene with different exposures, on 100 ISO (the smallest I can choose manually) and the smallest aperture my camera would allow me at that setting. For some reason it still turned out a little noisy, but I'll live with that :).

I brought it into the Gimp, and hit the "auto" button in the levels dialogue just to see what it would do (normally I check that and cancel if I don't like it). Somehow, it made the sky turn almost black near the top and fall off to a beautiful blue at the bottom. I toned it down a little bit, because I didn't want it that dark, but still... I'm REALLY happy with this sky. If only it fitted into one of the challenges this week! Oh well.

Very nice photo. Could you link to the original image as well, I'd like to be able to compare them and I like original pictures more usually. Thanks :)

OK, all I did with this version was resample it down and save it with iview.

No processing.

Wow, the difference is amazing. I love both. I would try something inbetween yet, maybe just increase the contrast a little and it would look perfect. :)

Makes a beautifull B&W as well. In photoshop's channel mixer: check monochrome, set red to +26 ad blue to +66

Great pic Lisa,

Wonderful how you combine the dark sky with the bright land. The detail and color of the sand are great and the profile of the houses is very sharp. Great how the buildings add a sense of scale. If you had entered it in the perspective challenge I would have scored it a 9 or 10.

Keep snapping and showing more of this! ;)

Bah! I did think the photo could fit into the Perspective challenge in that kind of metaphorical way (the clouds putting the house into perspective, or vice versa), but that's really not the way the challenge is described. I have 2 other shots I keep flipping between that are more on topic, but not as good. I decided that since this photo would likely get a lot of lowish votes for not meeting the challenge, it might end up scoring about the same as the other two anyway.

Lisa, It's very lovely and dramatic.

Lisa, that's a stunning sky you captured great. Only thing I would change is to crop a little more from the bottom, just to the beginning of the dune.

Are you SURE there isn't a person hidden in there somewhere? Couldn't prove it by me. ;oP
