As stated by Bear_Music in the conversation I linked above, "A texture, basically, would be something of relatively low opacity applied to the entire image."

I'd imagine you can vary the opacity, but not eliminate it entirely, the same way you can't completely black out the details in a window.

Note that while the texture should cover the entire image, and can show markedly different effects in different areas depending on the color and texture of the base image and blending mode used.

Thanks, General.

I'm sufficiently afraid enough of a 2nd DQ and my not understanding it all, that I'll abstain.

You have time to submit your entry for a pre-evaluation, either via a ticket (for any SC) or send me a PM with a link to the image. Be sure to put the editing steps (and maybe a link to the two source images) in the notes -- you can take those out again before submitting if you want, although that diminishes the educational value for any viewers ...

Note to self: post source images for current entry ...

Ugh. I have no idea what I am doing with this one. I have a base image and an overlay, but I don't really think they compliment each other. Oh, well. This is how you learn.

Going to be interesting to see just how much latitude is offered by the SC on this one. More than a few are much closer to double-exposures than an applied texture.

wanted to play it safe and not cross the line of DQ... seems that I could have pushed it much further when seeing many of the entries.

Started out at a 3.
15 votes later barely above a 5
No clue how!?!?!?

Ok... I'm sure this is elementary... and I'm still in preschool... but...

Are outside textures (not taken by me) still okay to be applied to images... found on the internet or in Photoshop?

Yup, the rule hasn't changed. It was just modified for this challenge.

For the challenge before the current one, right?

[Lydia has never applied a texture before.]

Yeah, the one we're talking about in this thread. The "Texture Overlay" challenge had a special rule requiring self-made textures.

Well, I didn't enter so hadn't paid any attention to this discussion. Voted. Just read the discussion. Uh oh . . . bet all my highest votes went to images that will be DQ'd. So be it. Frankly, I just looked at 1) whether I liked the image and 2) whether the overlay enhanced it, did nothing for it, or detracted from it (imo, of course).

this is hilarious. you folks seemed to have no idea what "composites" were when I suggested that challenge, but then most of you do composites for the texture overlay challenge... instead of texture overlays...

but thanks, I enjoyed them!

I have quietly remarked to myself on the irony of that as well :-) Even (or even especially) my own image seems rather composit-ish now that I look back at it.
