Oh! I took that as a compliment to you, Richard.

Big game hunting...

I didn't see it as an insult at all.

But... I might be missing something. :D

No, it was an insult. We'll see if he apologizes, or tries to explain. (I'll guess his insult will stand.)

No idea how you could take it as an insult. It was clearly just a friendly observation as to what you often shoot. You are known for that stuff because you are so very good at that sort of work. How is it insulting to be mentioned in a forum for the very work you excel at?

Pretend I am Sheldon: "Is this sarcasm?"

No. What the hell? What is a Sheldon?

Maybe the above explains the issue?

I read the (alleged) insulting post as humour as well - it often doesn't travel well.

For one thing, he called me out in the forums. Why is he allowed to do that? I don't appreciate what he said and it was off topic. Secondly, he incorrectly generalized about my photography, insinuating that I photograph only one type of subject. All I ask for is fair treatment and compliance with the forum rules. Or, is he exempt from those rules?

Richard, he didn't "call you out", he made reference to you and a type of photography you are particularly known for. I have followed all this for the last couple hours, and I was thinking to myself how friendly the banter was. I'm positive it was all well-intended and I'm sorry you didn't see it that way. Certainly no forum rules have been nroken.

I simply ask that those who called me out in this forum leave me out of their "friendly banter".

Richard, I'm known for my nude work - people have mentioned it in forums before yet it forms a small proportion of my total work. I wouldn't take such a comment to mean that any other work I do is not seen or is not appreciated. Why would I? Why would you?

Not going to happen. We're not going to tell people who they can, and cannot, talk about.

Subject to: Forum Rules? It's okay. I understand. And, I forgive those who said anything about me today. Life is too short to hold a grudge.

Excellent! No one was calling you out. I just wanted to know if you were actually excited about the challenge or if you were not excited about it. Cause your original statement was a little unclear to me, that is why I asked. BTW: Sheldon is the character on "The Big Bang Theory". A popular TV show playing all over the place for the last few years. Sheldon does not know sarcasm when he hears it. So, since sarcasm does not travel well across the Internet, I thought I would ask. But since you don't know who Sheldon is, it would not be humorous to you. Sorry about that.

You weren't "called out." Merely mentioning someone's name in a forum, particularly as an innocuous referral to a known shooting style, is neither insulting nor a violation of forum rules. It's like saying Vawendy could find a way to make a challenge topic work with squirrels or Roz could meet a challenge with a bug photo. Far from being offensive, it's a flattering testament to their creativity and ability to shoot what they enjoy within a given topic. Why on earth would that be grounds for an apology??? I've had people make very similar comments about me being able to tackle a certain challenge, and I took those as extra motivation to come up with a strong entry. Just enjoy the attention– there's no reason to condemn people for the crime of recognizing your work.

If you cannot assume the original poster acted in good faith, report the post in question, and do not reply at all.

Yikes! If an apology is in order I'll certainly extend one now Richard. Wasn't trying to make any kind of negative spin whatsoever ... sorry if it came across that way.

As others have pointed out since, you have an "outdoor" style and the first thing I think of when I visualize your work is rugged mountains, and wildlife such as mule deer and bighorn sheep. Actually I didn't realize you had fishermen in your portfolio - had I known I would have just left the previous comment (what I quoted) as it stood.

Regards,

Barry

What is this thread all about what is going on in this world :-)

This kind of doesn't follow the thread, but can someone help me understand this topic more? Is there any specific definition to 'still life' that I need to understand for this challenge?

Thanks. I am just having a tough time meshing the delicacy needed for still life with the craziness of the subject requirements for the challenge.

Still life seems so refined and proper.

The ideas I am coming up with for this challenge are not remotely refined or proper.

And that's why it's called a challenge :-)
