Ended up doing an impromptu portrait session with my daughter today. I like to photograph people, but really haven't "worked" at getting some good portrait shots. It was extremely bright and sunny outside today.

I can already see some work needed in posing and lighting but would really appreciate some constructive comments from you. Here's a sampling of three...the rest (I think about 9 total) are in my portfolio.

Where's parrothead when you need him?

I think the first one is lovely except for the glare on the nose. :)

the first one is the best...aside from the comment already made about the glare on the nose...the second one...her teeth need whitening...not to a glaring white. But if you saturated at all, it will bring up yellow in the teeth. If there is a way to crop it different. The color of the shirt extends into a sea of nothingness and not to be offensive but it is makin gher look way bigger than I think she is judging from the other photos. She is pretty though..you must be proud of her.

Is this better, or is the "fix" too evident?

This one's my favorite:

I like the pose and the expression, and I think the lighting looks nice. I have to agree about the shirt, though... a color would have been nice on her-- there was one shot that I thought "is she wearling anything?" :) She is beautiful, and for your first portrait attempt, you did a fantastic job... can't wait to see what your second or third looks like!

Thanks so much! What do you mean by "clothing buckles" in the one comment?

I think that looks great! I don't think it looks obvious at all!

Thanks. Yep...I probably would have put her in a different shirt, but it was kind of impromptu as I found a very nice location for outdoor portraits. Like her mom, she is not particularly photogenic and she is not petite. Very lovely, yes :) but not a typical "model" sort of subject. Kind of why I like working with her (besides the obvious fact of getting photos of my daughter.) I like to take everyday people who are not models and make them happy with their photos.

Maybe...but those are exactly what I need. All the little things add up! I see what you mean on that shot. Thanks again!

Is this better on the teeth and crop? I, too, noticed the yellow tint - yellower than they would appear in person. I try to not overdo on the editing - I want it to look natural.
