I think we should have a "straight out of the box" composition challenge. NO post processing AT ALL, NO CROPPING, NO BORDERS, NOTHING. B&W would have to be done in-camera. Only resize to 640x480 and rotate (if necessary).

I know people with less sophisticated cameras will feel they are at a disadvantage, but voting would emphasize composition, not technical aspects of the picture.

Just my thoughts...

Some/many cameras don't have the capability to actually shoot at an acceptable size (ie under the 640 pixel size limit). No, I don't know which cameras they are, but I do know we've had discussions over similar challenges before.

From that mariomel said, I interpret that resizing to 640x480 and rotating a picture are the only two things that can be done in the computer.

It could be an interesting challenge. A variation of this can be a "Rule of Thirds" challenge.

That's neat ... a rule of third challgne. lol That would be too funny, I can just see 100s of DPC users taking out their rulers and measuring pictures on the screen. "You are .17 inches off. I must give you a 5". Lol. "Your picture is awfull, but I must admit, that is one mighty fine accurate application of the rule of third. 10".

Sorry, I'm just being crazy.

LOL.

But seriously, how often do we take pictures knowing that we can "fix it in the mix". That is the great advantage of digital, but it is also what makes photography with a regular camera that much more difficult and challenging. This would differentiate the men from the boys, so to speak.

You would actually have to think before you shoot. Wouldn't that be something...

Well, we could have a speed challenge called "no editing". What we would do: send in an orginal file (preferably 640 x 480) with the EXIF data still showing. No editing, no cropping, no rotating. It would be a free study challenge. 48 hours to take the picture. Some administrator or volunteer would resize to 640 x 480 if needs be and save it under JPEG no larger than 150kb.

Just a thought.
