I happen to own a Canon A40 and am quite tempted to buy the additional TC-DC52 Teleconverter lens for basic wildlife shots and so forth. Has anybody here experienced using this lens? And if so, how would you rate its general performance?

One other quick question about the A40. I understand that in order to use additional lenses I must also own the 52mm lens adapter. Will I be restricted to only being able use Canon branded Lenses? Or will I be able to use other 52mm brands?

Any feedback will be appriciated

You will not be restricted to 52mm attachments. You can buy step up rings on ebay for very little money (less than $10) that will allow you to use auxiliary lenses with different sized threads. You will have your best luck with lenses that have 52mm threads or larger to cut down on viganetting. Before I got a digital SLR I tried lots and lots of these add on lenses and I was never all that satisfied with any of them. The best ones I tried were the telephoto attachments from Olympus and the two element diopter lenses from Olympus, Canon and Nikon such as the (MCON-35 and the Canon 500D). The Canon lenses would probably work best with your A40 I am guessing but it might be worth trying some of the others. I would definitely avoid going for anything more than about 1.5x though. I tried some of the 3x (Kenko) and 5x (Eagle Eye Optics) and there is a large degradation in image quality with these lenses.

I hope this helps,

Greg

I own an S200 and am interested in a telephoto lens. I know Canon doesnt sell anything that allows lens mounting but I have stumbled across a site that basically attaches a scope to a mount on the camera but I can no longer find this site. Does anyone here have info on where I might find it or anything similiar. I love the camera but the lack of an actual zoom on it is by far its biggest drawback.

I have the Canon tele and am really happy with it. I keep it connected to the adapter so that I can just switch it out with my lensmate (which is 49mm - I use for filters). It's a little harder to screw on and off than the lensmate
