Would one of you lovely people please help me size this bloody picture...please. I don't understand formulas...I'm asking that you just "do it" for me...pretty please (or give me the dimensions)
Also while your at it...any obvious critiques would be welcome. I'm printing these for my bathroom on Metal. This will be my first experience printing on metal any advice is welcome!!! Also what finish do you recommend for this.

Well, you can't GET a 20x24 out of the first one without cropping. It scales to 17.7 x 24 the way it is now. You can add 1.15 inches of white border on top and bottom to get 20x24 if you want to be sure they don't crop it weird at the printer. Just use photoshop to scale it to 24 inches at 240 DPI in the image size dialogue, then add the borders and you are good to go.
Follow the same principle with the other, skinnier one. It's not hard at all.
Of course, they may do metal to custom sizes, so you don't have to letterbox them. And it could be black or any color of border you shose, in addition to white, assuming you are forced by cost-of-print to do an actual 20x24.

Sometimes when I have an odd-sized print like that I just enlarge the canvas on one side to bring it up to standard print dimensions, and gang-up (fill the empty space with) smaller pictures I can trim out later ... no reason to waste emulsion. For example, with a square picture it's easy to fit one large and two small copies onto a standard 3:2 ratio (4x6, 8x12, 16x24, 20x30) print ...
 If you put your 17.7 x 24 image onto a 20x24 print you have a 2+" strip where you could put (for example) 6 standard-sized business cards ...

Or just leave a laptop or iPad with slideshow of your images showing in the bathroom, for a lot more variation.

That'll keep people from noticing how filthy the bathroom is. I don't have to clean the bathroom anymore, brilliant! |
