This is just something I thought some of you may be interested in since there are some really great photographers here. Patella, there's a place for submission of panoramics too...
Check it out : here

Wow. I flipped through the digital category (previous winners?) and saw nothing but digital art. The photgraphy was buried deep in the manipulations, and some of the entries seemed to be "art" altogether.

Photoshop gurus take note!

Thanks, Karen!
May as well try anyway!

Photoshop gurus...yeah..they would like this. I'm thinking of dusting off the old 35mm though. If I could afford a digital that gave me the control I have with my old 35mm manual....I'd love it. For now though, I'll just dream....sigh.

:)

I know what you mean. I put off buying a digital for well over a year after realizing that something in the neighborhood of three megapixels would work for me. Then it became a matter of selecting a camera that offered a good degree of manual control.

I finally found that in the Canon S30. Great little camera, full manual control. Though, admittedly, I do shoot in AE mode most of the time.

I was thinking of polishing up my Asphalt Mirage edited version for the digital art section. Seems they allow just about anything there :-)

Wow -- that edit is awesome. It'd definitely be a good contender.

Which is funny since they say just that is illegal, but oh well.

Great edit Hokie! Very nice indeed.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

We must make it a priority to get as many of our DP Challenge people in this and in as many categories as possible.

Lets pitch in and help everyone edit, tweak, choose ..whatever!!

We must take all their loot!!!!!!!!

Definitely!!!

If the contest is not limited to new photos, lets get all the stuff together here we can!

Especially help the folks who didn''t score big here in the specific challenge but have lots of potential due to the composition of their photo''s. Maybe they had an awesome photo but got lowballed for missing the challenge element, or maybe a technical no-no DQ''ed em but would be fine for the Ritz thing.

What a great way for the DP folks to come together in a common cause to beat the evil Ritz people...muhahahahah

I wonder what the qualifacation is for "Professional" here? Are you excluded if anyone ever paid you for a photo (Jim Thorpe rule) or do you need to be making your living with a camera (USA Olympic basketball rule)? Any idea?

I think I'm ok either way... That is if I can find a contender...

I REALLY like Hokie's idea of using eachother as sounding boards for selections/edits... In fact, prepare to be deluged with shots of my kid...

In fact, anyone with nothing to do while waiting for the next score update, please take a peek... I think I know which ones are best, but when it comes to picture of my kid, Daddy knows squat.

I was wondering about the rules over "professional" myself. I think I'm disqualified. *sigh*

myqyl, you have a very photogenic child.

Of the shots I saw the pink door and the people bench with that smile were my favorites. But if I were you I would concentrate your energies on your daughter for sure...

Get that bench smile with the colors and the all the things that make a Ritz kind of photo (refer to their 3 criteria :-) I bet you will get a great shot.

My guess is that you don't have to completely make your living off photography to be disqualified. I assume if you:

-Are getting payed for Stock Photos
-Have Been Published
-Own or work for a Photography buisness (Wedding, Portrait ect.)

Then you are out of the running.

I read over the categories and it says "Digital Photography (digitally enhanced, manipulated or composite images)" ... so that's the kind of imagery they're looking for. As for the other categories ... I still did not find where it says it has to be taken with a 35mm ... in fact they encourage the use of ANY camera and you can submit everything online. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I read too ANY camera. Also wonder whether spot editing and retouching is allowed for all categories???? Didn't say you couldn't.
