Background: I have mainly used center focus point with fast primes and i just focus-recompose. Now i am starting to shoot kids soccer games and want to use focus tracking. With the fast lenses the depth of field is too shallow so i want to pick my subject and then let camera track that specific subject using ALL available focus point. How do i do this on a basic Rebel/60D/6D type camera? If i enable all focus point the camera will just focus on closest subject and start tracking it (have not tried it, just a theory)?

You are looking for AI Servo AF. It kicks in automatically in sport mode, but you can toggle between Servo, One Shot, or leave it in AI focus to let the camera decide in any priority mode.
Here is a very basic description of the various modes and how to access them on the 60.

For sport, or fast moving wildlife I like to activate the center cluster of focus points and use AI Servo. Toggling all the focus points on tends to have something like a head or branch at the edges grab attention for the initial focus and send long lenses searching while the moment passes.

So it always starts off of the center point? That would help.

It will try to maintain the focus point on whatever it is on when you half splat. If the subject that lights up the focus point is on the far left, it will try to keep focus on that subject as it tracks anywhere on the sensor. So I try to guess what focal points I will want for a shot that will be more likely on the subject instead of picking something in the background. For sports stuff that varies on the sport. Under the hoop at a basketball game, the whole center section ought to be lit up. For baseball, just the center point. For soccer it will often be one on the far edge so I get the guy with the ball and all the field in front of him. You guess what you need, dial it up, check what flashes, and then hope you guessed right when the action happens.
