I haven't used photoshop in a long time. I had shifted to Instagram editing way back but when I discovered snapseed I turned away from that as well. Snapseed has been my go to editing app for any images on my phone or iPad (including RAW images friends have emailed me). I didn't use all of the tools within snapseed but had come accustomed to a handful of the items.

This morning I wake up and go to edit an image and the platform looks very different. My first reaction was based on irritation. How dare they change what I am comfy and familiar with? But then I started strolling through. I can now dodge and burn and correct perspective. The blur tool has been separated from the vignette tool and the blur tool has way more flexibility and control. Some of the funky preset filters look like will be fun to play with. A shadow/highlights tool bar with five tweak options. Now I know this won't conpete properly with photoshop and if I am ever editing images for a client I would certainly return to Adobe, but snapseed for almost every other purpose of mine has just made a massive leap forward in usability. Well worth checking out.

I've never played with Snapseed, so perhaps I shouldn't comment, but if I'm just making global and some limited local adjustments, Lightroom is going to be my tool of choice, given all the workflow advantages it has. If I need more than Lr, then I want the power of Ps. So for me, some of the alternatives, like Snapseed, are non-starters.
Also, FWIW, I'm not sure but I strongly suspect that if you try to work on a RAW file in Snapseed, you are actually working on the large embedded JPEG within that file. I highly doubt that they have written all the RAW conversion routines for the various cameras.

I am sure that the file is the JPEG too. For me, my camera usage has really just dropped down to using my iPhone. I so rarely pull out the 30d to shoot anything. And my image posting is either here in challenges or on facebook. And even then I have become acquainted enough with the iPhone camera and snapseed to not feel the need to do more with them. And on top of all that, the iPad has pretty much gotten me away from using my computer as well. My photographic life has just shifted so much from just a couple of years ago that I am more and more appreciating not being attached to large equipment of any kind.
