A closer look.

Being in London to meet the DPC'ers, I walked through St. James's Park, one of the most lovely parks in London. There's a great variety in birds, ducks and geese and often you can come very close to them.

09a - I'm not sure of the ID of this guy. From Sibley, it looks closest to me to be a dusky-capped flycatcher. I've included three views of him to help with ID.

5. House finch, male and female

I've decided when your house is bounded by an 8 lane E/W thoroughfare, a major freeway, a rail line, and a 6 lane N/S thoroughfare, you're kinda limited to the house birds. I'm still waiting for my crows to come back. No idea what they're up to. I hung a hummingbird feeder and did have one guest this afternoon, but did not get out there with a camera in time. I'll keep watch for that one.

Birds are very flexible and are everywhere, but they can be secretive and only reside in very certain places. I live in a super rural area, but even so, the species I see are VERY different at each location. Since we had chatted about the parrots, try checking the beaches near the palm trees. Often it takes a bit of waiting. Also, it takes a very close eye to see them all. My ability now to see new species is greatly improved from last year, so don't be discouraged :)

Can't help with the others, but I suspect this is just a Rock Pigeon variation. There were some other pigeons show in the set where this was posted. They're like Mallard Ducks, it's easy to spot the typical examples, but the number of variations is so high and mutations so varied that sometimes you just have to say "If it looks like a duck..." This variant is very typical of what I'd see in flocks of them in Philadelphia when I lived there.

You could be right here, thanks Jake. And yes, background bird is a coot, see the rest of my London images.

It's a Say's Phoebe. Phoebes are often confused with Fly-catchers, and the fact that the Dusky-cap is a summer only bird in the US, and then only in a very small part of NM that ID has me suspicious. Say's Phoebe makes more sense, and the belly colors are spot on.
