The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is having their annual Expo which is a great photo opportunity...

My favorite part is the Birds of Prey demonstration and I hope my 20D comes in by then. If you sit at the top of the stands on either end there is a very good chance you'll have a hawk or some other bird of prey fly right over your shoulder.

That's about the list really - not many more places I'd add, other than maybe town lake.

The hill country is great in spring for wildflowers.

Haven't found much other 'must visit' sites for photography. Hornsby Bend is supposed to be great for birds at the right times of years. Downtown has some interesting buildings. Zilker Park Botanical Gardens are good for portraits and some lillies etc

There are a lot of 'Austin' scenes on my web site at //www.pbase.com/gordonmcgregor Almost all of the wildflower shots were taken at the LBJWC

More seasonal things would be the wire christmas tree at Zilker, or the pumpkins at a church on 2222. The flamingos on the corner of bee caves and 360 can be good for a shot or two. Good sunsets at Oasis on Lake Travis. Plenty of music venues to try your hand at band photography, particularly as you can talk your way in pretty easily with so many new/ up and coming acts.

I'm not from Austin, but visit friends there often. While it's not very photogenic, I'd say the Stevie Ray Vaugh memorial is worth seeing, particularly at dusk because of the bats: they live under a bridge near the memorial. They come out at night in a flying river of black, it's pretty cool. I forget when it's best -- spring, I think. There's a restaurant way up on a hill overlooking the river -- they have something like 15 decks that cascade down the hillside (tip well, the waiters earn every penny). It's THE spot to watch a sunset. Everything comes to a halt for 15 minutes as the sun reaches the horizon. Of course, there's the bar and music scene. I like Austin, ya lucky dog!
