Yousuf Karsh was a legendary figure in my hometown of Ottawa; he lived in the Chateau Laurier, within a few minutes' walk of Parliament Hill. He shot everyone from visiting heads of state to artists, writers and celebrities.

I think it's high time that one of the greatest portraitists of the 20th century finally be honoured with a challenge inspired by his images. All you studio freaks should be celebrating.

Advanced editing.

Yes, He would be one of the top portrait photographers ever, His portrait of Winston Churchill is widely accepted as being one of his finest works.

Yep, Roaring Lion (as that portrait's officially titled) is pretty tough to beat - and I love how he got that pugnacious expression on Churchill's face!

Just so long as we don't end up with a dozen different versions of Roaring Lion, I'd be happy :-)

I hadn't really seen his work before - holy cow, yes this would be a great challenge, I can only hope it falls on a week where I have the time and effort to dedicate to studying his work, setting up the shot, etc.

I'm all for it. Man was a master! I've seen a bunch of his original prints, he was great at B/W printing, Like Adams.
