Hi, I am beginner photography enthusiast, and I was wondering what is a relatively easy/moderate trail in White Mountains, NH with some good scenic spots where I can get some good locations for photography which can cover the Fall Colors and the beautiful nature around.

I usually google the towns that I'll be staying in and NH isn't all that big. Then I look at the images from that area and start making a list of what I want to see or "find"...I also use Panoramino (google product) that has thousands and thousands of images to look via a map to see what will be near me on my trips...then it's kind of like a big GeoCache finding the 'exact spot'...

Try any of the hikes of the Kancamagus Scenic Byway (Lincoln NH to Conway NH). Lincoln Woods Trail along the east branch of the Pemigewasset RIver and Sabbaday Falls are two very popular trails. There are many more. The "Kanc" has many beautiful spots along the 35+ mile drive without getting too far from the car (and the crowds).
If you want something a little less travelled I like the Sawyer Pond area. You can hike in from the Kanc or take a shorter trail from a fire road accessed from Rt 302 in the Bartlett area
Further south in my neck of the woods Hiking Mt Cardigan or checking out Welton Falls can offer some great photo ops.
When the colors peak all of NH becomes photogenic. Get here soon though, the colors are changing fast. |

| One other thing, if you like waterfalls this is an excellent guide!!! I was impressed at the amount of waterfalls in the New England area and how accessible they were...some really, really nice ones |

Unfortunately, the trail system in the WMNF isn't really set up for a lot of the fall colors. I find getting high is good, but you need to find a clear spot to get your shot though. Or you're stuck on the side of the road along with all the other leaf-peepers. I go to the WMNF for the waterfalls, and general hiking. You could drive up Mt Washington and stop at all the lookouts. Or Artists Bluff in the Notch.
Otherwise I just drive around and look for interesting scenes from the side of the road. The one place I REALLY want to go is now a serious hike. The old radar station in Victory, VT. I used to be able to drive all the way up to the top, but the new owners have gated it. Now you either have to hike or take a 4-wheeler or motorcycle up...and I'm not that big on hiking that far.
Maybe we need to set up another GTG in Franconia Notch like we did back in 2007. It was fun. I had no clue what I was doing back then. Not that I do now either. LOL.
However, if you do find some good spots I'd love to know where they are too. I generally do most of my photography in Lancaster and Littleton. Not that I've done much shooting of anything recently. |

Dang! That was 7 years ago?! We come up every summer ... might have to plan something for 2015. |

Thank You all.. For your suggestions..
The Weather forecast for this weekend shows chance of rain at 70% on Saturday. Hopefully it clears out :).
I will let you know how the trip came around. |

Take an umbrella (and a polarizer)! Wet leaves can be fantastic to shoot.
