Well its more of an explanation than a rebuttal but here it goes.
I would like to first thank everyone for their comments to my post, however most of the respondents seem to be a bit miffed at me. I read every post and I must say that many of you bring up many valid points and going into future challenges I will keep them in mind. Thanks for enlightening me.

Now please let me try to explain myself. At the time when this challenge was posted I looked to see what the previous winners were, I studied the photographs and I read many of the view comments. I was trying to get insights into what the members judging patterns were and to get a feel for the technical merits of the shot (vivid color, focus, etc). So naturally I was looking to stay away from doing a composition remotely similar to the top 3 finishers yet was very close in terms of technical quality and overall visual impact. I thought that other members would view a similar composition to the original 3 as an obviously unprincipled attempt by me (or anyone else) to get a high score based on a previously successful composition. At least that was what I believed. Now thats not to say that you shouldnt take photos of birds, water drops or any other subject all im saying is try to win with a different subject matter on a repeating challenge. Try to be a little more original. Imagine if a photo of a seagull, a shattered light bulb and a water drop place in the top 3 in second Stopped Motion challenge. What have we achieved? aside from stagnation and the lack of imagination.

Anyway, I understand your points, I just hope the members understand some of mine.

Good luck to all in future challenges

Ignore them. The light waves are not private property. Take a picture of whatever strikes your fancy. Even if similar, it will no doubt be unique in its own way.
