Just thought I'd post to see if anyone knows anything more about the Tammy that's on back order. reading threads it looks like there's no ETA and several people think it's because Tamron is fixing the Ai Servo AF quietly before sending anymore out.

Don't know anything about it, but I have the lens. I just don't use the AI servo, because it doesn't focus fast enough for me (with any lens). I can focus faster with one shot.

Regarding the lens, though, I've been on the wait list at B&H forever, and have never heard anything. But I found the lens at a store in Florida. Stores may be your best bet.

The only thing I know about it is that I had a choice between buying that Tamron and Canon's new stablized 16-35mm and I'm glad I didn't wait.

It really is a sweet lens. I need to use a monopod or a tripod with it. But I'm actually getting a bit better hand holding it. The only thing I don't like is that the focus really zooms in and out when it loses the spot. In other lenses, I think you can set something so that the focus doesn't go that far afield, but I haven't looked into whether it's a lens setting or a camera setting. I need to do that.

vawendy, I see you have quite a few lenses. Which is your favorite lens the Canon 100-400 or the Tamron 150-600? Or should I consider the 300m f/4 L? I don't have anything that goes over 55mm so far so my reservation with the 300m would be the huge gap from 55-300m. Should I ditch the wait of the Tammy and go for one of the others?

call them back...and tell them to put your name on the list...

They have called me now twice for the Nikon version but it is either a lens or Paris...guess which one won....

ETA: So they are getting them in regularly....

Mine was ordered in February from B&H and came early this month, after many, many emails saying it was still on backorder. It arrived just before I left for Seattle :-)

Still evaluating, but so far, I think it has the potential to be a REALLY fun lens :-) Fast enough to get a Hummingbird in flight, or an Irish Wolfhound in full gallop (which is one of the things I wanted it for). Maybe vawendy and I should do a Canon/Nikon version shootout!

I ordered one from B&H last week because I read they fixed the servo focus problems and I believe the lens is seriously underpriced. I wanted to lock in $1069 price. Hopefully this price will be honored once the lens is available. The new canon 100-400L will likely be over 2 times as much. Hope they get them in soon.
