I knew better than to submit an entry for mirrors. The title became a self-fullfilling prophecy...worst score ever. Didn't matter that it was in focus and on-topic. The image just failed to register. I knew my week would suck. So, what did I do to keep from crying all over my update button...

Let the kids ride their bikes before daybreak

Took the macro lens out in the yard on a cloudy day

Caught a wasp, put it in a jar with saran wrap over it, took pictures, then let it go

Taught my daughter how to fix scrambled eggs

Took time to stop on a country road to see what it looked like from the ditch

Went to church

Stopped to appreciate the midday light, filtered by the leaves

Took my son on a hike in the woods

Made a new friend (and let him go)

Put to practice some things I learned from the backlighting challenge

And found one last miracle in the garden

So, even though my scores sucked, and I didn't get hardly any comments, I think I had a great week. I thought about complaining and jumping on some of the threads, but it actually felt better to get out with the camera than to sit behind the keyboard.

Please, feel free to comment. Hope ya'll have a great week!

What a great post, Skip! And good advice too :-)

I have been having a troublesome few days (just little nagging issues to deal with) as well as being a little peeved about my 'smoke' score. Time to get over it and start shooting!!

Thanks again for sharing your uplifting attitude!

Thanks Skip !

I think my week this week will be like yours, I must stop hitting the update button. Your shots are great, love the hairy fly.

Cheer-upping!! Just as I was about to update and re-hyperventilate about the stopped motion scores :)
Beautiful pictures. Particularly the fly on the flower, learnt-from-backlighting, and the last flower. Keep them coming!

Looks like a good week and a productive way to get over the DPC blues. My cure-all remedy (albeit hard on the liver) for a sucky DPC week is curling up with some ol' Jack D and drinking my troubles away. :)

Great post Skip but ya timing sucks! I needed this 2 weeks ago. Now I have a rusting update button from all my crying over it! lol

You are a wise man, Skip...very wise indeed. We could all do well to follow your example. Thanks for making lemonade out of lemons, and showing us how we can do it too! :o)

Wow. You scores should suck more often. Great shots.

Thanks, Skip for a great way to remind us to keep it all in perspective. I think it also helps to know when we have a sucky week -- that we're in great company. It seems that most of us have been there, and here we are. . . still here, right?

Right!

again, thanks, thanks, and thanks for the comments. i can't tell what's better: to do well in a challenge, or to suck and become inspired?

i didn't think i was going to enter the touch challenge, but something really cool happened today, so i think i'm going to give it a shot. i just wonder if i could enter and ignore the score until after it's over?

how do you define it? the art of being able click the shutter with the same finger that got burned by the update button?

nah...good ol self loathing is enough to define it. Perhaps its the fuel that makes us strive harder..who knows.
