Thanks for posting, there is some lovely stuff there, and a real feeling of location. The woman in the window is a favorite.

I just went to Europe for six weeks. After a couple of weeks, I sent my "real" camera home and just used my cell phone.

I'd decided that it was too heavy... too big... and I wanted to enjoy and experience my vacation with memories... instead of stressing over photographing it.

But... that was MY idea of a vacation (since I shoot for a "living") and it might not be yours.

First time I went to Europe for vacation, I brought the DSLR, and 4 or 5 lenses. I got great shots, but I grew tired of lugging it around.

Subsequent trips, the largest camera I took was my Canon G9 and later just went with my S100.

Good point. But since taking pictures, for reasons I don't understand :) , is my hobby I do carry the "real" camera with me. And yes is heavy and sometimes I just grab my phone to shoot.

My wife also asks me to take some pictures with "that camera of yours that take nicer pictures".

whether you are travelling or not or just on a photo wallk for the day, the era of carrying a big & heavy DSLR and heavy pro lenses to get great images are just about over.
The mirrorless cameras are the way of the future.
My Olympus OM-D E-M1 and 17mm prime lens weighs less than my former 85mm f1.4 lens alone!

I always laugh when I read responses that carrying a "Big and Heavy DSLR and pro lenses are just about over"

There is no, I repeat NO trade off that mirrorless cameras and their lenses provide me that I would trade my kit for. Regardless of what comes my way on Vacation, I know I can capture it with my kit. That isn't the same for "glorified P&S" mirrorless cameras. On our recent vacation we attended a Luau with a fire dancer. Those memories are captured forever. Some at 12,800 ISO and printed nicely at 8x10. The place we were vacationing at even bought some to use and so did the local newspaper. Try to do that with your mirror less kit. Because I "sold" those, our vacation became a write off.

Really nice shots BTW =)

Have you actually tried any mirrorless cameras such as the Olympus OMD EM-1?

Ladies and gents please do not turn this thread in a dSLR vs mirrorless one. I have both. The question was not related.

Thanks,

Hehe. I have left some comments, and seeing that you are posting a lot of images taken with the 100-400, you made the correct choice for your trip.

Sorry, I was just curious and was not going to ask anything else.

:) Cheers

ETA: BTW, I would have voted for not taking the lens. How many times have I brought everything I owned and then only used one lens... usually the 24-105. I am making myself simplify these days because it kills my back to carry everything. However, that being said, it looks like you did a nice job with the lens.
