Now, i'm not Muslim myself, but this is an important night coming up (8 days away), and it would be easy enough to shoot a challenge based around the tenets of the Night of Destiny.

Many Muslims celebrate Laylat al Qadr, also spelled as Laylat al-Qadr or Shab-e-Qadr, which most likely falls on one of the last 10 days of the Islamic month of Ramadan. This event is one of the most blessed of all nights in the Islamic calendar year.

Laylat al-Qadr is also known as the Night of Power or the Night of Destiny. It commemorates the night when God (Allah) revealed the Qur’an (or Koran), which is the Islamic holy book, to the prophet Muhammad (also known as Mohammad), according to Islamic belief.
It is also believed that this night marks their fate in the following year. Therefore, many Muslims pray in the night to God for mercy, forgiveness, and salvation. This practice is also called Ehyaa.

This "Night of Power" is considered the most appropriate time of the entire year to pray for salvation and blessings. It is believed that a Muslim’s past sins are forgiven if the person prays throughout this night. Many Muslims assemble at mosques during the Isha’ prayer and pray until midnight.

Give me what you consider an appropriate title, description, and ruleset and I will post it to the queue.

Heads up: this is a challenge suggestion thread. It's not the place to discuss the pros/cons of the Muslim religion itself.

Title: Night of Destiny
Ruleset: Basic or Advanced
Description: The "Night of Power" is considered the most appropriate time of the entire year to pray for salvation and blessings. It is believed that past sins are forgiven if the person prays throughout this night. Let us pay homage to the holiest night of the year for the Muslim religion with an entry that depicts devotion, prayer, salvation or blessings.

Perhaps we could set this up for the weekly Open challenge in the appropriate week? Not necessary, just putting the idea out there in case it helps this challenge pull in more non-member account entries.

---

And thank you Bear.
I work predominately with a large group of Muslims and know that this is very important to them, so i'm sure that many other members will feel the same.

don't confuse "x religion" with, "in name of x religion"...

even "in the name of" can offend other groups that are not associated with said religion. Just saying the sites own terms of service state such.

You might be talking about extremists. I'm probably not going to convert, but there are MANY muslims, all over the world.

But Jab, that's what YOU are doing: you're attacking Muslims as a group. We need you to knock it off, please. There are plenty of forums out there in the interwebs dedicated to just that, so maybe find one of those? It doesn't belong here.

you all taking my words the wrong way, I am NOT attacking, bashing, degrading or doing anything to offend anyone. I am merely pointing out that this subject matter can be offensive to others for VERY specific reasons that are caused by a minority of said group. To me, this violates the sites own terms of service we all had to agree to by having a challenge of said subject.

I'm gonna close this thread because I don't see this discussion going anywhere. The Challenge Suggestion is noted and in the queue. Any further discussion of the pros and cons of having challenges based on religious or other controversial topics belongs elsewhere, not in "Challenge Suggestions".

May I remind people that just a couple weeks ago we suffered a minor uproar of outrage because USA's 4th was promoted and Canada's independence day was ignored. At that time I promised people I'd see that reasonable challenges based on non-US-centric topics got into the queue, and I've followed through. Now it's up to Langdon to decide if it's a good idea to host it or not.
