Hey,

For all in the region, i'd like to organize a get together for a day at a nearby 'attraction' (Upper Canada Village, or something of the like) and make a day of it for us and our families (should you wish to extend the invite to them). I know that my wife and son would want to join me in an excursion like this, though not to monoplize our time, but to say hi and to see the site for themselves.
I would anticipate a weekend working out to be the best time for this, and based on people's schedules setting something a few weeks away may be easiest to avoid existing plans, so i was thinking that the weekend of July 19/20th might be a good fit.

If you are at all interested, lets get some discussion going, maybe weekdays work better, or a date sooner/further out - but lets figure it out and get something going.
And for anybody who is Not from the area, if you're looking for an excuse for a roadtrip from somewhere else, we'd love to see you guys too!

**edit - addition**

actually, looking around the UCV site, these could be fun:

Civil War Re-enactment Weekend

Special guests and talks about the role of Canadians in this war, and its impact on pre-confederation Canada.

Sounds like fun!I am sure I can work out a special rate for the day/weekend and give everyone an early "before the visitors" or a late "after they are gone" photo time tour of the site as well. If there are enough people wanting to join in I may be able to arrange for a DPC lunch or dinner as well.

I'm in!

Could be a fun weekend outing, esp the carriage driving. Did the Civil War re-enactment last time, so think I'm good for gunsmokey shots!

I am definitely in... as a matter of fact I wouldn't mind seeing both of those attractions.

He is hoping that it is cooler this year than it was for the 1812 re-enactment.

But it was kinda sorta like Canada's own Civil War, right? ;-)

No.
Civil War implies within your own country. In 1812 we burned the White House.

Yeah, i went there, and so did my forefathers ;p

The war of 1812 involved the attempted invasion of Canada by USA based troops.

This invasion attemt was eventually repulsed by a consortium of British and French Canadian regiments who were greatly assisted by the Native peoples of both Upper and Lower Canada who occupied settlements along the St.Lawrence.

Not a civil war at all.

Yeah, I know it wasn't really a civil war; I'm just being a dumbass. What else is new? :-)

i can do the 12th, but under "normal workday hours" - have to be leaving the site by 4:30 to drive home and make sure the dog gets a chance to get out before her bladder explodes.
