One of my main gripes about the Sony F717 is its size. It tends to make one think twice about taking it hiking, or to a mass event like Oktoberfest. If I step up to a DSLR, it is even worse.

How many members have a large High quality camera for special pictures, and a second smaller P&S camera for everyday purposes? If so how often have you had the wrong camera with you? and what cameras do you have?

Edit, Oops, there is a MANY missing in the title

Even though I've upgraded to the 10D, I still have my G3 for those times when I don't want to do weight lifting.

Nikon D100 and Pentax Optio 555. I take the Nikon when I go out specifically to take photos, the Pentax is with me most times (should be all, but sometimes I actually forget :).

I use my dSLR for everyday shooting (for challenges, walks, etx.) and I find that the only times I use my 5050z is when it is unsafe to take my dSLR (a boat ride) or when the size is too cumbersome. The Olympus 5050z is getting cheaper and cheaper and is a great camera still.

I carry my FZ2 (not very big but too big for pocket), and also 2 pocket cameras (Oly c310 & Sony U30), clearly I have issues ;)

Also have a look at this thread :)

I used to carry my Canon S50 everywhere. I mean *everywhere*. Although slightly bulky, it would fit in my front pants pocket without being overly noticeable. Then I would take my 300D only when I thought I might want it (for the lenses I have on it).

Well... I've pretty much reversed tactics in the past couple of months. I now "haul" my 300D almost everywhere (the huge/heavy bag is grown into an appendage) and only take my S50 when I feel I can't take the 300D.

The thing is... the lens makes the camera. And often I prefer the kind of shot that I can only get with the lenses on my 300D. So much so that I've kind of "grown out of" my S50. Sad, but true...

I have a 10D and an S50, and guess what I too haul the 10D everywhere. I use the S50 where I can't get with the 10D, so underwater (the housing is much cheaper for the S50), and for certain candid and street type shots.

Typically I take 95% of my shots with the 10D

I have a Sony P2 that I use when I want to take snapshots of friends and stuff, but don't want to carry the 300D. It's only 2mp though. I need to upgrade my "pocket cam" so I could print an 8x10.

I will say that P2 is a warrior. Metal body, built in lens cover. I've beaten the crap out of it and still works flawlessly. I've been tempted to enter a challenge using it in an attempt to get the highest score with that camera :)

I have the canon 10d and the canon s500. I haven't really found myself with the 'wrong' camera yet. Having the 10d with me covers everything. I haven't stumbled across a situation yet where I wanted a great shot and only had the s500 with me, but it will probably happen at some point.

I did this with my Sony U30, thanks to having less common equipment I now happily have the highest rated pics for all 3 of my cameras :)

Even though I upgraded to a Nikon D70 I still have and wont get rid of my Nikon 4300. I use it everyday and carry ot everyday.

I would use my Pentax Optio S all the time, but it's had ridiculous amounts of dust behind the lens for months. I'm waiting for a good time to send it back to Pentax and have it cleaned. It'll probably cost loads though.

My digital rebel is being shipped to me next week, but I will definitely continue to keep my Canon A40 -a 2 MP Point & Shoot - (although I had the chance to sell it for a decent price) for the following reasons:

1) I work with a youth group so a point and shoot will be the only thing I take along to events or let them to borrow (I'm still convinced a teenager was responsible for the sinking of the titanic - an iceberg is just no match)
2) My wife will prefer the ease of use on the A40.
3) It fits in my pocket and I won't be as worried about keeping it in my car at all times.

Yep, I still keep my Canon Powershot S30 handy. It's great for bike rides, or other occasions where I don't want to carry the D100 along. I also like to have it on vacation for times that I don't want to look as much like the obnoxious tourist I am...

I have to admit that I love the ease of carrying my pentax around. Sure everybody has much better pictures with their digi- SLRS, but at least I don't look like some JACKASS TOURIST. Its bad enough when I carry my film camera- its ok for vacation shots, but hell- not when I'm in my suit with a briefcase at work. Even professional photographers run the risk of looking like and being a jackass taking a picture of inane things with a GIANT, Hulking, digital monster slr. (I guess a small light film-looking slr is more appropriate at times)

OH yeah- If you put aside the obvious criticisms about small glass and picture quality compare to some 3 pound digital SLR, with some post processing, the tiny/subcompact 5+ megapixel cameras could be the area in which digital photography has had the biggest impact.

not to piss off anyone with lens envy-your canon 10d's are no doubt vastly superior but its just a thought.

I have the Kodak DX4900. It's a small camera that has served me very well. I took to Egypt cause I didn't feel like carrying my much bigger Minolta DiMage 7i, which now compared to my Digital Rebel is almost a pocket camera.

I was thinking about picking up some weight gain, you know

10D and the Sony F717. The Sony has become my pocket camera. It seemed to shrink in size and weight after lugging a DSLR with tripod, lenses etc.

I have the mark 2 and the rebel as a backup== mostly for one doesnt work or needs to be cleaned. Then I still have a camera. However I have used the rebel with the long lens to make it longer if I need to just to get some more reach.

Nikon D70, but I kept the Oly c5050z as it fits nicely in my purse :)

I am still trying to figure out which to carry all the time now, my old Kodak 6440 or the new Kodak 7590. MOst of my shots are pretty much unplanned. With a purse on my shoulder all the time already, it could be hard to always have that second bag. The 6440 just stayed attached in a pouch on the strap of my purse. The 7590 isn't huge, just a tiny bit too big for the purse.

What caught my eye most in this thread, though, is the "tourist" comments. I always felt so much more "touristy" with the smaller 6440 than I think I will with the prosumer 7590. I guess I am backwards once again! LOL

My Kodak goes everywhere big brother goes, primarily to document the shooting...set ups, venues, etc. And sometimes, it gets better images on full automatic while I'm busy screwing with the manual settings...lol
