The premium edition of the effects app / plugin from onOne is currently free for a limited time:

It requires 8 GB of ram?
Ok, I only have 4 GB... It will probably not work...

It's good that they have a lot of tutorials.

It will work with 4G Ram. It's the 64-bit operating system that is essential. On my old desktop I run the onOne black and white editor. I like it a great deal.

Thanks. I'm downloading it now. I mislaid a lot of my plugins when I got my new computer so this should be useful.

I tried it for the first time today. It seems good!
But I don't see a way of saving a stack of filters with the image.

Let's say I'm working on a picture.
I have 2-3 filters applied, with different settings.
I don't see a way of saving that and continue working on it later. When I reopen the file, all the filters are merged, and I cannot edit the settings I previously used.

Even if I use the PSD format.

How do you work with Perfect Effects (or any product from onOne I assume) when saving the file?

Unlike the Nik filters you cannot invoke Perfect Effects as a Smart Object - at least I haven't figured it out.

The only thing you can do if you're not sure you're done is to save it as a Preset and go back to it with the same original image, apply the saved preset and make your changes. If you make add'l edits afterwards in Photoshop, doing them as Smart Objects will allow you to send in the same original layer and then the add'l work will be applied on top. Not ideal, but it's a work around.

The Perfect Photo suite allows you to do all the work within it and avoid Photoshop, and you might be able to go back and alter a previous layer within that, but I haven't investigated.

OK, so I should have tested this up front before posting the previous thing.

You can invoke Perfect Effects as a Smart Object. Duplicate the layer you want to apply the filters to, convert it to a Smart Object, and then send it to Perfect Effects 8. Afterward, if you want to change the settings, double-click on Perfect Effects 8 Smart Object within the Layer box and it will sent it back with the settings intact.

Thanks for the info.

I'm using the standalone version of Perfect Effect, so this technique would not work.
I'll see what I can do with saving a preset.

Thanks.
