Watch out for parallax error! Oh, and make sure you correct for the slight curvature of your monitor and any deviation it might have from perfectly square pixels. Then add a correction for the smearing effect of jpeg compression... it may really have been a square had the file size requirements been less strict, so be fair! Then, make sure you have the latest data on the effect of gravity waves and local relativistic variations in the speed of light due to gravitational lensing.

oh dear, I never thought of such implications! I will have to take all new measurements and begin re-recording all of my data! Oh the horror!

Well done those of you who have a sense of humour.

Although some very fair points have been brought up, i must disagree with the implied me being square comment, Having been on vacation for 2 weeks now i have put on a little beer belly, so I am developing circlesk curves in areas.

it's funny how the most part of time on this site is spent in the forums, appologise for distracting so many intelligent thoughts away .. i never knew about parallex error, so from a thread for my own amusement (and a few of you who caught on) i learnt a little something.

Life is about laughing, if you can't laugh and you're that uptight that you have to take it out in forums then that it turn makes me cry with laughter. (is that too harsh too?)
I had my fun this week, even if i didn't get my entry in in time.

Your view of, the definition of square is rather anal don’t you thing? What I saw on the entries was imagination, creativity. The challenge was that your subject must be square shaped. This is open to a lot if interpretations…in a 3 dimensional world square shaped can represent a lot if different things. Even a rectangle can be described as square shaped, a cube can be square shaped, a light reflection on a glass can
Be square… you shouldn’t limit your self to 4 corners.

Also your interpretation of the cliché is wrong, reread the description for the challenge.
Its not about creating a picture on an old clichĂ©, its about taking a picture of an over used subject, i.e. Dogs, flowers, kids, sky’s, and making them better than most have done in the past…

Ha!

Yes, that is true. I have not won a challenge and most likely never will. However I'm not the photo-nazi who is insulting people's intelligence by referring them to web sites defining what a square is. I know what a square is, I know what a road sign is, I don't have to think out of the box if I don't wish to, if my photo is dependent on the title so be it. It's my f#$!'n photo. You think my photo is too literal, you think my photo doesn’t meet the challenge, fine give it a low score. That's the whole point of this site. I'm not a professional photographer, I do it for fun.

And I'm being harsh? He's referring people to a web site that defines what a square is. Do you think he's doing it cause he honestly thinks people don't know. NO! He's doing it cause he thinks he a genius. He's thinks his crap smells sweeter than most. Well I don't think so. If you’re going to talk down to people back it up. WIN A CHALLANGE at least.

LOL! Okay you got me there. I don't think DigitallyWet is a Nazi, I'll take that back. Just a photo-snob.

Dear Digital,

In a nut shell, just let people do what they want to do. Critique their photos, not their intellegence.

In a nut shell, just let people say what they want to say. Critique their photos, not their forum posts.

But at DPC no one ever "loses the argument" -- the subject gets diverted and the thread continues on...as in this case, for example.

I have both a T-Square (T-shaped) and a carpenter's Framing Square (L-shaped) which I fortunately didn't even consider submitting, although they are indubitably squares.

And they are both "square shaped"!

how very nice to see this thread coming back around almost 180 ...

can i just say for those of you who didn't get it yet, i started this thread out of amusement, not as a photo snob or anything else.

If you had failed to nitice every week there is a thread like this one about the current challenge.
I decided that this week i would pick something meaningless, and start an arguement. I must say mr fibre optic bit very well, some others bit but less agressively.

community, got to love it don't ya.

Isn't posting something "meaningless" for the purpose of "starting an argument" the definition of trolling behavior? Is this a confession and plea for mercy?
I'm fine with humor, even sarcasm, but you must bless us with a typographical representation of your inflection, or some people (maybe even me) will ask you to quit it. I've found the use of the ... tags has worked somewhat effectively here...

Well said GeneralE.

The only reason why DigitallyWet is peddeling this "I did it for amusement" story line is because Kiwiness gave a reply to my post saying he found it funny. I can assure everyone, he did not post that for the sake of being funny. If you did intend on it being funny why not reply with a ...... "Relax I was kidding!!" to my HARSH posts?

Oh ya beach boy.....
Don't give me that "Mr. Fibre Optix bit" ... crap.

180? I might of taken back the soup-nazi thing..... sorry the photo nazi thing but I still want you to win a challenge in order to define to me what a square is.
