Unfortunately, we have had to disqualify the former first-place entry for inability to provide a valid original. After creating a DNG file from the original NEF, the photographer discarded the NEF, think the DNG also would be a valid original. For the record, a DNG is ONLY a valid original if it's what the camera creates when shooting.

Congratulations to our new ribboner and Honorable Mentions!

The title of the new blue is appropriate for the situation.

Pity about the dq but good to get the official lowdown on the matter. But does any camera out there capture images in DNG? I only see jpg and RAW/NEFs.

That's too bad, it is a cool and deserving shot.

Leica (at least some of them), Pentax, and apparently quite a few smaller manufacturers. If you think about it, if you were creating a niche camera you'd want to work with DNG for sure, because no way would Adobe etc be "adding" *your* custom version of RAW to their converters...

DNG has been exploited by open-source developers.[14] Use by camera makers varies: the largest companies such as Canon, Nikon, Sony, and some others, don't use DNG; but smaller companies, and makers of "niche" cameras who might otherwise have difficulty getting support from software companies, frequently use DNG as their native raw image format. (Or in the case of Pentax, as an optional alternative to their own raw image format). There are of the order of 15 or more such companies, even including a few that specialize in movie cameras.[19] In addition, most Canon point & shoot cameras can support DNG by using CHDK.
