I recently got a Canon 70D.
I'm downloading the pictures with EOS Utility, mainly because it's creating a folder per day of shooting.
When I'm reviewing the pictures with Digital Photo Professional, the orientation is ok.
But when reviewing them in Windows Explorer (Windows 7), the portrait pictures are in landscape orientation.
The camera is set to auto rotate the pictures on the camera, and on the computer.
What am I missing?
In the past, I had a Canon Rebel XTi, and there was no problem. I didn't have to manually rotate the pictures. |

1. It is most likely that Explorer is not recognizing/honoring whatever tag specifies that the image should be rotated for display.
2. Be careful doing this with photos you intend to enter here -- if the image is tagged as being modified by any software it will not be considered an "original" -- I don't know if this is an issue with the EOS Utility or not. However, I/we recommend using the operating system to simply drag-and-drop the file(s) from your card to the hard drive.

And if the challenge isn't minimal editing, it's always better to shoot RAW.

I was under the impression that one of the Canon software was suppose to rotate the pictures while downloading them.
I thought that EOS Utility would do that...
And when I was using my Canon Rebel XTi, there was no problem. The pictures all have the correct orientation.
Does someone know what I should do?
(When I shoot for a challenge, I always keep the RAW file.) |

After further investigation, I think I found the problem.
EOS Utility doesn't rotate the pictures. ZoomBrowser EX does it.
It wasn't installed on my computer (I had it before switching camera, so that's why it was working with me Canon Rebel XTi).
Now, EOS Utility downloads the pictures, and then automatically launch ZoomBrowser EX, which rotates the pictures.
