Haven't been around here much at all for a while, but knew this would be a good place with some advice.
Driving from Utah to Oregon coming up here on the 11th.
Going to be staying in Newport, but traveling through Portland and wanting to explore a bit.
Any good places I should definitely visit? Suggestions?

Not sure how much time you have but these are some places that would fun to see. I lived there for 28 years so any questions you have I'd be happy to answer.
I don't know your route but you should get a view of the Snake River and then the Columbia River. Plenty of areas for picture taking.
Once in the gorge you can drive over Mt. Hood and into Portland. It's longer but more scenic.
Multnomah Falls,Columbia, Gorge Mt. Hood
In Portland: Japanese Garden, and the Rose Gardens, Zoo
The coast: Canon Beach or Lincoln City, Tillamook.
Have fun and take lots of pictures!!

Assuming you're taking the I-84 route.
Multnomah Falls which is about 45mins east of PDX;
I'm a big fan of McMenamins Pubs, so McMenamins Edgefield. It use to be the county poor farm back in the day. Have lunch there and explore the site;
Downtown PDX: Armory (Portland Center Stage) in NW Portland. That entire area is a great place to explore and people watch;
Pioneer Courthouse Square, touted as Portland's living room;
walk the loop of Waterfront Park and Eastbank Esplanade.

I'll add other places as I think of them.

On the way to Newport from Portland, stop by McMenamins Hotel Oregon for lunch/dinner.

Edgefield Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited_835878.jpg is awesome, and right next to the historic Highway which will bring you past a bunch of falls including Multnomah.

Edit: Speaking of Edgefield, don't know if you drink or what your tastes are, but they have a Ruby beer, which is a fruity brew, and Terminater which is like Guinness. You can order a rubynater which isn't on the menu and is a blend of the 2. My personal favorite.

Thank you so much for the responses so far!
I've been hearing a lot about McMenamins Pubs, so i'll be definitely checking that out, as well
as most of everything you guys have added. And i'm definitely a Guinness lover so i'll have to check
that out for sure. There are so many breweries there, that's half of my trip hahha.
I'm really inspired and pumped even more now.
