Is this how San Diego is spelled using hooked-on-phonics or is it an actual place? :)

To all our liberal friends (American, specifically): If you believe that Bush is truly the most evil president in American history, and if you believe that Bush and/or his administration are a threat to democracy and that his reelection will trigge the end of democracy as we know it, and if you believe that he is conspiring with [insert your favorite choice here: big business, the Saudis, Osama Bin Laden, blah, blah, blah]: then you MUST support the lifting of not only the mis-named assault weapons ban, but of all bans on military-grade weaponry. Because if you really believe he's going to institute a dictatorship over this country, then you're possession of these weapons will be your only defense. As has been pointed out endlessly thus far, this is the true purpose of the 2nd ammendment! (I'm sure dbode can help you all find out where to go to join the NRA, since he's so familiar with their web site.)

why are we arguing about uzis and ak-47's and shit like this? This is a photography website. We shoot with cameras, not guns.

I'm sorry I got involved.

Another passionate thread in the "rant" forum.

Both sides have been fairly well represented thus far and little else can added to sway either position. Like so many positions, this one also hinges on one's philosophy towards INDIVIDUAL responsibility. Depending on whether you lean towards government deciding for you or you deciding for you, that will pretty much place you on that side of individual rights issues.

What truly confounds me is how so many want individual choice on some things but don't want others to have choice on other things. I think we need to take a harder look at each of our hypocritical stances. I think it unjust for someone to want CHOICE on abortion but won't give someone else a CHOICE on gun ownership. I think it unjust that someone wants CHOICE on religion but won't give someone else CHOICE on marriage partners. I think it unjust that someone wants CHOICE on where they can live but won't give someone else a CHOICE on smoking.

Many here need to take a harder look at where your own hypocritical positions are. Choice is Choice. Either you believe in the freedoms of CHOICE and the individual responsilibities associated with it, or you don't. This is not about "well just some can have a choice, but you all over there don't get one".

"God did not make man equal. Sam Colt did." No other defensive rescue tool levels the field between a frail women about to be victimized by a 200 pound thug than a firearm and the resolute will to use it.

I am fully aware of the counter-arguments about the gun being used against her, etc. etc. etc. Please save your keystrokes. Rather, ponder whether or not she should have the CHOICE to choose to either arm herself or not. Individual responsibility. Let her CHOOSE. If you conclude that she has the CHOICE, then so do all the rest of the choosers, whether they be pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, Pro-life, Pro-smoking.......whatever. Make your own choices for yourself and have the respect to let others do the same.

Flash

BTW, tell the victims of the Janjaweed, that they do not need firearms. Tell the father of the little girl that had her leg hacked off then raped. Or the husband of the wife that was raped repeatedly in the village center. To me, they should at least have the choice. The vast proliferation of firearms in america allows every single community the OPTION of choosing to fight this very real, very current, reality......should it ever come to them. Some other communities around the world, are not so fortunate.

Dubya was drunk driving and draft dodging when kerry was taking shrapnel for a war he later fought to end. Kerry may not be perfect but hell, we know that Bush has no moral authority to lead the country in a just war, let alone a lying lying lying fake stupid assanine war like that of the current Iraq situaion.

If you really like Bush and have an IQ low enough to considering re-electing him...
GET READY FOR THE DRAFT.
IT IS COMING.
AND FOR NO GOOD REASON.

Or better yet, buy an assault rifle and enlist to fight the useless war on terror that bush espouses.

why is a photography site so political?

Because of people like you who post political entries like the one you just did. That's why.

Exactly the expression that should be taught to all children when they find themselves in the pressence of a firearm. Children should be taught respect for any items that could harm them. A friends "showing off" of a firearm should be met with a very precise response....as taught by the Eddie Eagle program.

I hate guns. I hate guns. I hate hate hate hate hate guns. I've shot one once, I could live to old age without ever seeing another again. I have nightmares about being shot, being chased around a warehouse by drug dealers with machine guns (hmmm, wonder where that kind of dream came from?). Guns make decisions so decisive. A drunk guy with a gun ... don't get me started. Guns strike terror in me like nothing else can.

BUT, I've studied enough history to realize that an unarmed nation has no recourse against tyranny from within. Will tyranny come in the next couple of years? Probably not. But if measures are slowly put into place...the Patriot Act...Gun Bans...who knows what will happen down the road?

I've surprised myself. I'm the last person I'd expect to be supporting guns.

I've often heard the argument that guns protect citizens from tyranny from within and from our own government. What I don't understand is how can an armed militia of citizens hope to defend themselves against the legal and outnumbering and technologically advanced professional military of the federal government? It seems to me that this argument to defend against tyranny from within is useless in this day and age.

I don’t know Olyuzi, just look at Iraq right now. Those "barbarians with pitch forks" are kicking the our ass over there. Bush said "bring it on" and they are; nicely. I think pissed off Americans could do the same.. now if only we can start pissing off Americans with guns... Hmmm.

Eric, never point your weapon at anything you don't want to shoot. Did you learn this in Hunter's Safety as a kid?

I have a great idea, in celebration of the expiration of the ridiculous "assault" rifle ban expiring, why don't we all post pics of our guns!?? :) This will make some of you crazy I know. *evil grin*

Love it! That's a great shot. Love the B&W, it goes great with the subject! What's really cool about this is, the reflection of the 3 rounds, making 6, as in a "6-shooter".
